Yup. Its a sleeper. Been using his roms for a while now and have yet to hiccup once on me. Let me know how it treats ya. I have tried multiple themes and the lock screen mod and it all works great with it.

Do any themes have a four icon dock? I really don't want to throw a launcher on top of this just to get a dock w 4 icons.

Umm, thats a very good question for which i dont have a solid answer for:-( i put adw on my stuff right away because i am lazy and dont want to redo my home screen every time i flash so i use the backup/restore function. Then i theme my phone. I do believe that the rom comes with 2 different launchers. But depending on if you are using one of his themes or if you are going to flash another theme, they may or may not come with a themed launcher.
I just dug around rom and there are 4 different launchers that come with it. Lol, I always go into the rom and delete the stuff i dont want, which includes the launchers since i use adw. You could always try a home switcher and see if one of the others have the dock bar you want. I wish i could answer your question better.

It has frozen on me twice now. It happens when I go to reply to a text. I tap on the box to make it show the keyboard, and bam...frozen solid. Have to pull the battery.

The first time it did it, I went ahead and reflashed the rom. Then I did it again for good measure. So three flashes, and it still did it. I have not done ANY data restores at all, so there shouldnt' be any old, lingering bad data.

Also, the battery indicator in the notification screen doesn't work. It'll be stuck on 100 for a while, then just take wild guesses. I have to use the battery widget that came with it to get my real battery life info.

SRF didnt like my phone at all. It would soft brick once a week and I'd have to odin back to stock to be able to use my phone at all. I have not tried to newest release, though.

I honestly have not found a rom that was 100% flawless yet. I can do a battery pull and reboot in about .6 seconds now.

Wow, you have all the luck. I have not seen one post about freeze ups in his thread that i can recall. The battery icon is unfortunately 20% increments. He is suppose to be changing that in his themes that is is gonna be releasing soon. Your phone has me thoroughly intrigued. What kernel are you using, the one that came with it? I try alot of different roms but always finding myself back on his roms because i never have any stability issues, and battery life is incredible. Do you use the official twitter app by chance? I have seen others, cant remember if was on here or xda, that they came to the conclusion it was causing there phone to freeze. Just a stab in the dark with that. I really want to know what is causing all of your freeze ups, as you would im sure.

I don't use Twitter, so no Twitter app at all on here unless it comes loaded on a rom. I'm using Bonsai v4.1.1 kernel right now. I generally use whatever comes with a rom. I don't wanna rock the boat. Apparently this is the kernel version that was on the Bonsai rom taht I flashed the other day. So when I flashed THIS rom, it kept the bonsai rom..

And 20% increments is the dumbest thing I ever heard of. I'm not gonna lie..lol..like right now, it says 100% in my notification bar, but the battery widget shows 83%.

Man!!!! I almost made it a whole day with no freeze. I thought it was done being fussy! But I was just in the middle of typing a text, and bam. Froze up solid. grrrrrrrrr

Twitter does come preloaded on the rom but most likely isnt your issue. What i really do wonder if your phone doesnt care for the low memory tweaks in the kernels. I know all of our phones are different. Some can oc to only 1.2 others cant undervolt at all(mine is like that). Have you by chance tried clean kernel by drockstar? I think it may be worth a shot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053252
It is basically a cleaned up stock kernel that is rooted.
And i totally agree with you on the 20% battery increments.

I don't know. I know my phone had some bugs when I got it. I'd have to dig up some old posts to refresh my memory, but it seems like freezing was one of them. So I'm not quite sure what I can and can't blame on the roms and kernels.

But with a rom and custom kernel, that kind of eliminates everything from the factory, right?

Ya for the most part. Seems to me that the kernel is probably the most like culprit but it is soo hard to determine in your instance. Thats why i suggested trying the clean kernel because it is basically that, a cleaned up stock kernel that is rooted a very little if any tweaks. Be a good baseline test. But i understand where you are at too.

yes, but there is a odin flashable one too. the cwm(zip) is the link above the odin(tar.md5) one. i am downloading it now just to verify, will edit after flashing, would rather bork my phone than yours on bad instructions ok just clear cache and flash. goes fast so dont be surprised. i made a backup just in case but had no issues. i really hope this works for you.

Thank you. Is there any reason to do the odin one now instead of the regular?

I've had to pull my battery twice today, plus reboot to get data connection back (I didn't turn it off, it just disappeared), and reboot to be able to mount usb....ugh....

i think the odin version is like a one click root, i think it says in the op future rooting methods will be done this way instead of the one click root. so i don't really see an issue with either way. oh, if you don't have cwm 3.1.0.1 already(the purple one) then you will after this! and it is nicer then the other version imho.

Great, thanks. 4 freezes today. It was only in texting apps, but today, it was completely random. Like, halfway between two home screens. I was actually seeing half of one home screen and half of the next. grrrrr

This is what always seems to happen. One little issue just gets worse and worse over a week or two until I want to throw my phone into Tampa Bay.

Did it last night. Have not had a freeze yet. **crossing fingers**

I really, really like this rom so I am desperate to make it work!! Oh, and I did decide to go ahead and run Go Launcher. It's what I was using before I flashed this. So I have my 4 icon dock back, and it still has all the cool transition effects. I was afraid a diff launcher might override that. (I had only used one of the preloaded launchers so I wasn't sure what would happen)

Hopefully all goes well for you. This should tell you whether or not its the low memory tweaks that has been your issue or not. I have seen rodderik(genocide dev) suggest this kernel to someone who was having similar issues and it did the trick for them. Good luck! :-)

I hope it does. If it does work then it was the low memory tweaks that has been your issue, if not, maybe you have a bad phone. You cant get any more of a stock kernel (to my knowledge which is somewhat limited. Lol) than that while being rooted. So my fingers are crossed with you. Let me know how it goes and good luck! :-)

Still going well!! I've not had one freeze all day. Battery life is amazing. I was worried the first day because it KILLED my battery. It was insane. I thought I was going to have to ditch it. But now, with moderate use, I don't have to charge it all day. Which is NUTS! But I'm crazy and plug it in any time it's under 50%..

Very nice! You are on emerald envy still right? If so that has been the report on the battery life, it just keeps getting better after a few days. Lets hope that it stays stabile for you. B-)

It will run eith ext4 or rfs. But i would suggest flashing the new cwm 3.1.0.1, it will auto convert according to the rom so you wont have to worry about it;-)

Is it better to flash over ec05 plus or go back to stock and flash? I am new to flashing roms and kernel, so I thank you for your help.

No flash over it, if you have issues then wipe everything 3x then reflash it.

Ok I have clockwork mod 2.5 rfs do I have to flash back to stock in order to upgrade to 3.1.1? Also if I wanted to instal emerald envy to I need to upgrade my clockwork mod? It says rfs compatible but I want to be sure. Finally I read someone's comment that flashing over EC05 plus rom, wich am currently using, caused issues and they had to flash genocide kernel and I was having trouble finding that. I appriciate all your help here as I want to get it right the first time

Happy to help:-) also i understand about wanting to get it right. You can flash the new cwm with your current cwm no problems. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115999 Also i would suggest the genocide kernel regardless as it is that good. Plus now it has dual boot capabilities which is a nice new bonus feature if you like that. Here is the link to it - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961614.

You should be ok as long as your rom is rfs. I just say a comment over at xda about a similar question. Cwm 3.1 is awesome, it will go back and forth between ext4 and rfs with no issues.

Is the emerald envy rom capable of running genocide 2.0 as well?

Ok it has been updated to urban regeneration. I am now a tester for the dev so i can give you some pretty good insight;-) you can use whatever kernel you would like too, i tested both genocide 2.0 and 1.1. It was released with 1.1 because during testing we found 2.0 to sleep lock on occasion and 1.1 didn't. Not saying 2.0 will sleep lock but it did happened during testing so he went with 1.1 for now. The new update is awesome. By far his best work to date. Smooth and fast as all i gotta say about it. And about genocide 2.0, it will run on all roms except stock ext4 that is odexed.

I tried the Midnight Rom (BYOR) for a while and at first it was great, then it started boot-looping and I kept having to reflash and reinstall everything. After Reflashing 4 times in one week, I decided to try something else. It was then that I came across SRF 1.1.1. I think i'm in love (LOL). First off, I love how everything has the dark theme to it. The market looks better, it came with a black keyboard, the notification menu is darkened out, gmail, even the stock SMS app is blacked out. I also found this little lock screen changer and i'm loving the puzzle lock. Everyone that glances at my phone always ask what kind of phone it is and how I got it set up the way it is. I just smile and say that its my little secret.

Above all, the SRF is definitely one of the best. I had problems with a few earlier versions but 1.1.1 seems stable and i've yet to experience a boot-loop, unplanned reboot, or massive force close compilation. LOL

That's how I'd describe my experience with Urban Legend Emerald Fury.

You have any problems with emerald? Did you upgrade to urban regeneration yet?

I've been pretty happy with the EC05 Stock Plus ROM, but lately it has frozen up two days in a row. Getting pretty frustrated.

I've been keeping tabs on the Gingerbread ROMS but it seems there are serious issues with battery life and other functions.

Anyone know what the most stable and usable ROM is right now?

I hope Samsung comes out with the official Gingerbread ROM soon for the Epic!!!

I have also been afflicted with the dreaded SMS text bug that drops the area code so texts fail. This was known since beginning this year and Samsung still has not fixed it!!!

I am getting tired and impatient with Samsung support. This is an awesome phone but Samsung's lack of support is really tiresome. I used to defend Samsung, but these days I will recommend HTC because of the best customer support for their phones, bar none.

Have you tried SyndicateROM Frozen 1.2? I've been using SRF for a while now and all of their ROMs have been great and provided me good battery life. There was also a new gingerbread build leaked today, EG22, if you're possibly interested there. There's also Bamboozled 1.0 which is a gingerbread based rom off of the EF02 leak. So far it's doing well but I only recently flashed it.

I would suggest either urban regeneration or urban emerald envy. Both are very solid and if you read through the threads there are very little issues with them. Regen has the lock screen mod built in and envy doesnt if that makes a difference.
