Default Rooted to SRF, all the sudden Force Close

I'm getting force close messages on EVERYTHING all the sudden. Sending a text messages with a photo? Nope, force close. Email? Force close. Even force closes on the dialer sometimes, and the contact list, some apps, and just other various things. It tells me it force closes when it starts up, (I'm sorry I don't have the specific message right now, but I'll add it later when I have the chance)

I'm running the latest syndicate rom frozen... and I tried clearing cache and dalvik cache 3 times each and i'm still getting this force close on everything. It is rendering my phone NEAR useless ( its like a 50 / 50 chance ) so it's not as dire as it could be, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

I'd rather not take the whipe / reset route or restore until i get some different feedback and decide that is the only way to fix it.

Thanks for any help. Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but I couldn't find anything that mimicked my situation close enough.

-Tyler.

////EDIT\\\\ I wanna point out I've been rooted for a while now, but this just all the sudden decided to happen

This is most likely due to data corrupted. Boot in to clockwork, clear Delvik, data, and cache 3 times each. Reflash SyndicateROM Frozen, then your kernel.

Since your are rooted, use Titanium Backup to save all your apps and data. Don't forget to back up your contacts as well. After the reflash, download Titanium Backup from the market and run the restore. Restart the phone and almost everything should be back. The only downside to this is if your app data is corrupted, you can't make a safe backup. I backup my data once a week, just in case I have a problem.

If you have anymore questions, let me know. I typed this out fast before I left the house.

OK So I reflashed my rom and I'm no longer getting the force close issue. The only problem I have now is just that my market will open and sit on loading then close to the homescreen. I'm chalking this up to poor network at work, and hopefully when i get home tonight and try it, it will open right up.

The good news, though, is that I'm able to make phone calls and texts... there was a point after posting this original topic where I couldn't do any texting or make calls and my contact list was erased... after flashing the rom again, google synced and I got all the info back, I still have all my apps, and everything (minus market) is working.

well the market issue wasn't because lack of service. I tried on 4g and wireless even and nothing. It continues to return me to the homescreen without an error message within seconds of trying to open it.

I hope I figure something out soon.

To avoid the data corruption in the future, be sure to enable journaling! It will backup your data so that the Force Closes don't happen again.

Also, as far as your market goes, try clearing both the cache and the data under Mange Applications. It will revert you back to the original version of the market, which isn't nearly as data intensive...

Good luck...

OK I wasn't sure what Journaling even was, lol thanks

As far as the market, I've done that 800billion times lol... Nothing I've tried has fixed it, and I've done everything short of downloading and installing a new apk

just to be on the safe and sure side of things, how do I enable it?

I can't even factory reset my phone... yikes.

Something tells me that I'm going to have to shell out some money to buy a new phone very soon...

Generally, you will get that issue if you have a corrupt APK file, or else an incapable File Explorer. You could try installing ASTRO and see if that will allow you to install the vending.apk...

it does allow me to install other apk's...

its Adao File Manager that I'm using... I'll check out the other and see if that helps, maybe continuing to look for a different copy of the market .apk

OK, here's an update, and just in case anyone runs into this problem. I couldn't restore, couldn't factory reset, and things were looking really bad.

I just started removing apps I downloaded and stuff, then removed the rom and installed it from scratch again, and enabled journaling, and it's working fine.

I had tried re-flashing my rom in the past and it didn't work, so I don't know if the complete removal and stuff really mattered, but all my issues are fixed and my phone is back to being awesome again.

Just for my own information, how exactly do you remove a ROM?? Also, I'm assuming you did the X3 data wipe before the install?

One other question, were you able to ODIN back to stock, or were you unable to get into download mode?

Glad to hear you got your phone back in check...

I don't care who you are, sooner or later you're going to get a bad flash. Redownload the rom, check the md5 code to be sure you got a good download, wipe everything, flash the rom, flash the kernal, enable journaling, set everything up how you like it, do a fresh nandroid so if it gets corrupt in the future you just have to wipe and restore. If your phone still boots it's most likely ok. You just need to set it up right.

I didn't ODIN, but I've gone ever since without any problems.

I am glad I got it back working though, just sucks that it took me so long of trying to figure it out I couldn't seem to find anything about it when it had happened at first.

Now that it's working do a fresh nandroid so next time you get issues you can just wipe and restore. It's a lot easier. Even with journaling on my wife's phone still goes berzerk after a few months. As long as you have a fresh nandroid it's no big deal.
