Default double checking about rooting

ive been reading a lot of things on rooting and now im becoming more interested in doing so. But i think im kind of misunderstanding the whole concept. So rooting is to access things on your phone that you usually cant? The purpose for rooting my phone was so i can have GB made by one of the developers. To do this i would have to root and then download the ROM onto my phone? But before you install the new ROM you must press the volume, camera, and power button and press backup, correct? And finally, what is the most stable version of the GB ROM currently out? Sorry if i am asking too many questions, I just want to be sure of things before I root my phone.

Instead of asking here why don't you just go to the sections that have all the information. There is a lot more to rooting than the way you're simplifying it in your post. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything but you really should get all the info before trying to root and see what it will take to do so. Here is a thread to get you started. It has video and explanations to help you along.
