Default Trying to root gingerbread, weird icon

i don't think its a brick but after trying to root stock gingerbread odin gave me a big fat fail message. when i try to turn the phone on the screen has a cell phone to computer icon with an exclamation kind of yield sign. something ive never seen before. yikes. cant get the phone in download mode anymore either. whats weirder is when the battery is out and plugged into the laptop the damn charge icon is coming up. ugh.

bump

so ive left the battery out and it doesnt matter. when i plug in the usb cable to the laptop it still thinks its charging even without the battery in. i can actually get into recovery mode(barely after fiddling around) and do a factory restore/erase but as soon as i reboot i get that same icon with the phone/computer/yellow exclamation point. i dont have another non stock cable to try or another computer at least until tonight.

anyone have any idea how to get back into download mode at this point? i have an appt. to bring it to sprint but id rather fix it first.

i think i messed up when i forgot to choose the pit file and chose only the pda. ugh. thats what got me here i believe.

shocked i couldn't get any feedback here. I managed to get the phone into download mode after multiple attempts and restore to EC05 FROYO. Wow that was kinda scary. I knew something was wrong when I was flashing my stock GB and it literally went too fast. It just didn't seem right. Back to the drawing board now.
