Default Windows 7 64-bit - Driver woes

Hi guys,

Having trouble getting the Windows 7 64-bit to pick up the drivers for my Epic (running stock EI22). I downloaded the drivers from Samsung, installed them using the .msi installer, but when I plug the phone in via USB, I get an error about the drivers not being successfully installed. The phone shows up in the USB devices list as "Unknown Device". Attempting to update the drivers via Windows Update tells me that I'm already using the best drivers. Odin, as expected, does not see my phone at all. I've pulled the SD card, pulled the battery, tried Download Mode, turned on USB debugging (but I never get any prompt on the phone when I plug it in).

I have tried different cables and every USB port on both of my machines (both Win7 x64) and the same thing happens every time - I even took the time to uninstall and reinstall the drivers before plugging in to each USB port - there are 11 ports between my two machines, so it took forever, and still nothing. Is there ANYTHING else I can try, short of buying a bunch of USB cables and hoping for the best?

I'm not even really dissatisfied with the phone as it is except for this stupid GPS problem since the Gingerbread update. But as far as I know, you need to be able to get CWM installed to apply the GPS fix, and to get CWM to stick, you need to flash a kernel patch. But since I can't get Odin going, I can't even get that far.

Are you sure it was the 64-bit version you installed? I had the same problem you described trying to (accidentally) use the 32-bit version on Win7 64-bit until I switched.
