Default No syncing with Outlook???

I just activated my Epic and have come to a horrifying realization- It won't sync with Outlook!!!! Are you kidding me? This is not good. I don't care how cool a phone is- I refuse to give up my e-mail/ calendar/ task program on my home pc. Any options out there?

I picked up companionlink for google when I had my evo for 29 days and it works fine with the epic. Yeah its commercial but it syncs with google and google syncs with your phone. Works great for me.

Are you talking OTA sync or cabled sync? I thought all Android phones had OTA sync to Activesync/Exchange built in?

I've been using gsyncit, it works pretty well too. $15 one time fee, you'll find it on Dave's Web Site. Once set up, you just hit the sync button while your in Outlook, and it syncs to Gmail, which will end up on your phone. I've seen anything that does tasks very well. Gsyncit does tasks, but I've never used it, since there is no task apps on stock Android that I've seen, so I'm not even sure how it works. Link http://www.daveswebsite.com/

I had this problem last night. All I did was export my contacts to my GMAIL account, and then go to sync contacts on the EPIC and voila. All my contacts were perfect on my phone. Calendar is very easy to sync the same way.

The actual e-mail account that I use Outlook to check was setup directly on my EPIC very easily. So, now I have all of my contacts and calendar items from outlook on my EPIC, as well as get my corporate e-mail.

GMAIL works. And don't listen to all this don't upload your personal data to a cloud BS.

Keep in mind what you did was a one time, one way sync, meaning changes made in outlook or on your phone won't be shared after the initial sync. Gsyncit kind of works like active sync did with Blackberries and Windows phones, it is two way (if you want, there are several options). So you can add numbers or calender items from either device and they will end up on both after a sync. I have only used Gsyncit, so I have no idea if there is another program that is cheaper or better out there. It doesn't sync emails, just calendar and addresses. Also, if you haven't already done this, make sure you set up outlook to "leave a copy of messages on the server" and set it to "remove from server after (at least) 1 day". What I have noticed, is that if you are using a POP3 account, that outlook could poll and remove your email from the server before your phone has a chance to poll it. This seems to keep that from happening. You find this setting in Outlook under Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing e-mail accounts> Select Account then hit "change">More Settings>Advanced tab, the setting is on the bottom. If by chance anyone has a better setup for that please let me know, since I set mine up like this years ago, things might have changed since.

Why do people still insist on syncing their phone to a standalone program on their PC the way we HAD to do in the days before connected devices?

Sync your phone with the source, not another client!

If you're on an exchange server, connect your phone directly to exchange for email/calendar/contact sync.

If you're not on exchange, sync your calendar/contacts to your google account on your phone AND in outlook. Setup your email (POP or, better yet, IMAP) on your phone.

Forget syncing one client to another client.
