Default Is it possible to remap the keys on the PHYSICAL keyboard?

I'd like to remap some of the keys on the PHYSICAL keyboard. For example, I've never inserted a smiley in a message and don't intend to start now, so remaping the dedicated smiley key to something useful would be productive.

Is this possible?

Not a bad idea at all. It would be awesome if that is possible.

Absolutely! Surely, this must be possible!
I don't even have my (Samsung Epic) phone yet.
Still, knowing I could do that would just add to the overall gratification.
Next paycheck baby! Woohoo!! *overly excited*

No, I'm looking to be able to change what the key press on keyboard does. For example, press smiley but get the hyphen.
