From Sprint: We have been able to identify the root cause of this. It has to do with the microphone or speaker remaining active even after it's use has been terminated. This will be addressed in the next maintenance release. No timetable has be set for the release though

I am also having the same issue, thought it was an issue with connectivity with a charger I had and the phone. Just had to use the insurance program to get another phone, was worried I had to spend another $100 again. Good to see im not the only one with this issue.

Very interesting.

Knock on wood, I upgraded my Epic to CleanGB ROM, and don't have that issue.

Cry High pitched sound coming from phone - any solutions

Samsung Epic 4g had to be replaced after three weeks of this high pitched sound coming from the mic or speaker - the phone died, could not use the mic, the headset or speakerphone - all other options appear function. Once week after replacement - same thing again - looking for a solution anyone have ideas?

I'm not very smart about this stuff: Knock on wood, I upgraded my Epic to CleanGB ROM, and don't have that issue.
Can you tell me how you did this?

This problem is due to the "Voice Search" application getting stuck on. If you go to your setting, then applications, then all... find "Voice Search" at the bottom of the list, tap it and hit "force close". Then ringing will then go away.

EDIT: After performing the above, some people may need to also relaunch voice search (IE from the google voice search widget) and close it out properly.

Its ridiculous that they haven't come up with a fix yet. I mean this is one outrageous glitch! Its not like u can just put it on silent. It goes off during class and its a diruption and embarrasment for me.
