Settings, apps and of course gmail, etc will be resurrected from one version of this ROM to another.
Be sure to give it plenty of time, it seems to take a full minute or so even after it appears there is no activity (it'll seem busy and sluggish if you try to use the screen icons or menus too soon).. give it a nice long wait.

flashed this last night over v 1.0 and all flashed well with no issues. the camera did fc ad as suggested by Tazz uninstalled the camera and pushed the new apk to the phone via adb/command prompt.
seems to be just as fast and stable. working for me.

Well now LauncherPro is having Force Closure issues. Ive tried a couple of reboots and I have even wiped and reflashed 2.0. But its still having issues. I am going to try re-downloading 2.0 and see if that helps.
I really like the look of this ROM and have heard great thing about it so now that I took the leap into ROM's the other night I want to flash this asap. Question about this ROM and all 2.2 ROM's in general....do you HAVE to set up A2SD on all FroYo ROM's or is it an option?? I don't have a tremondous amount of apps so I'd rather not go through the extra steps to set A2SD up. Thanks in advance for a reply

I'm surprised to see LP having the force closes.
I'd be inclined to go into menu > applications > manage applications, where I'd clear cache and data on LP.
Then I would reboot and go to Market and re-install LP.

Would you say the best place to start learning is just by poking through threads in the XDA theming sub-forum (for the Eris), or elsewhere?

Thanks eris user!
The icons were made with bettercut and minimal icon pack. The dock is a custom dock I got from the launcher pro forum. The clock is digital clock widget. Battery is battstat. Just tweaked colors till everything matched. Nothing too difficult.
I did read the entire show your screenshots thread at xda themes sub forum. Lots of great ideas over there.

A2sd is strictly optional.
In fact, some wise folks recommend leaving it off unless you have a specific need for it, which it doesn't sound like you do.

AFAIK, none of the Froyo ROMs will recognize the SD card if it is partitioned. So, that should make your life easier - don't do it!
BTW, Android 2.2 implements its own version of SD card storage where partitioning is not used - apps are stored on the regular FAT32 (DOS/Win95) filesystem of the SD card. Using it is also optional.

I just flashed the Vanilla 2.0, and I think I like it, however, it has ADW Launcher and I think that I like the LauncherPro better (those two missing widgets on the dock I just have to have).
I see where I can get rid of the ADW, but is there a flash for the LauncherPro, or do I just download it from the market?

launcher pro is available for free in the marketplace.
Tried the themed version and my keyboard kept force closing on me. Switched over to the vanilla version and it is working smoothly so far. Perhaps I'll sit down later and try to figure out why my keyboard is force closing, but I'm content for now.

Jit and comp cache are off by default. Are you guys noticing any major differences with them on or off? I could swear that it seemed like the performance was faster AND smoother with jit comp cache off.

Check through the ADW settings. I am pretty sure you can add two more icons to the bottom dock. (You will first have to disable to "page dots" at the bottom where those icons will go.)
I am using mabilo and can't seem to get it to work with this 2.2 rom. I am not sure what I have to do but every time I set a ringtone in mabilo it goes to silent on the rom. I can't figure it out, anybody have any suggestions?
Sorry to bother, would you mind letting me know what clock and battery widget those are? I've search around for a nice looking duplicate to the lock screen, but could not find anything I liked.

thanks for finding the clock. I had to reflash the rom and lost some widgets in the process. I flashed a new theme that has a serious keyboard error. didn't do a nand backup and was basically screwed.
