Default Contact Problem

hello,

i upgraded to rooting my phone with a froshedyo rom and i feel like i have a new phone. so happy. only thing that has been bothering me is with the contact info.

on my old 2.1 phone, i could easily enter contacts birthdays through the edit contact option. now with the new contact app, i cant find a way to enter this information except through my gmail account with my laptop. i have to say that when i learn someones birthday i always have my phone and rarely have my laptop available. it was always conveinient to pull it out and just edit. am i simply missing how to do this on my new phone or am i stuck going through google and laptop.

thanks for the help

It's a pretty well-known omission for vanilla Android. You can do one of two things: create a birthdays calendar and enter the birthdays as a yearly repeating event - which is rather crude.

Or, of course, you can flash one of the HTC frameworks ROMs (xtrROM, xtrSENSE, PlainJane, or one of the experimental Froyo Sense builds) and the People app there has birthday editing, IIRC.

Perhaps there is a third party app that allows this? This one looks possible, though nobody has commented or reviewed it: My Birthdays - Android app on AppBrain

Wait: I found a way. In the phone's browser, go to google.com/contacts (it takes a while to load completely) - you can edit contacts from there and add birthdays.

In doing some Googling, by the way I learned that while the HTC People app that comes with Sense allows you to fill out a birthday field, apparently it does not sync with the birthday field in Google contacts.

If the app doesn't work, I think I'd suggest just email yourself the details and star the email to remind you to do it from a computer later on. Doing it from the web browser on the phone is pretty awkward.
