Does GSB give us the live wallpaper option? I've never used it in any of my ROMs thus far, but wanted to see how badly it killed the battery life and if it's worth that extra battery drain for what you're getting.

Yes, you can use live wallpapers. The only one I see included in GSB is maps, but I think in the thread on xda there was a post that listed several that play nicely with the eris.

I dunno, I flashed 1.6 last night after a complete wipe (and flashed gapps) and the system seems really laggy. When i go from an app back to the dock screens, it takes quite a few seconds for the widgets and shortcuts to show up.

From what I understand you need to give the phone a little time to settle down. If it's you first time flashing GSB there's a lot of syncing going on. Patience my man.

In addition to the time that it takes the initial set up to finish - GSB will download and install all of your existing apps in the background as part of the initial sync, in addition to syncing calendars, contacts and gmail - you may be having an issue with Launcher Pro being closed in the background while you run other apps.

There is a setting somewhere in LP to remain in memory, plus there is an option in settings->CyanogenMod Settings->Performance which sets keep home in memory. I'd try those two things.

Unfortunately, none of my apps installed automatically, so I had to re-install them all manually.

Good tidbit. Seems to be running better today for sure. I hear a lot about SetCPU and overclocking and whatnot, didn't know if it was a case of having to do that....still very much a novice at all of this!

SetCPU (at least the basic functionality) is essentially built into GSB under Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Performance>CPU Settings.

Just don't overclock too high or you could fry your phone. 710 MHz (and below) is widely considered safe. Some go slightly higher than that.

I'm running mine at 748mhz. Anything above that and the phone wants to freeze up. I have tried it at 787mhz (like some people say they run at) with different rom's and she'll freeze right up. I think I read somewhere that someone was running at 806mhz. Seems like it would have a meltdown at that speed.

Installed Gingerbread ROM last night, all I can say is wow! I am blown away, thanks to your comments I couldn't resist. Now I have to do the same to my wife's phone.

Here's the "grand daddy" thread for overclocking discussions: Overclocking ?? Hmm.? (not necessarily the best or end-all, just a good, solid collection of comments and discussions; trying doing a thread-search for "overclocking"...you'll get at least 10 pages of search results!).

I think I last had mine set to 43-degrees as the high temp threshold. Your mileage may vary though, depending on if you have a silicone case, how high its overclocked, which ROM you are using, what apps are running (especially tethering or GPS apps), etc...you get the picture.

Its a good thread to read through (man, been a while since I've visited that thread though ).

Cheers!

Wanted to pop in and say hey to all my Eris buddies. I'm glad to see you guys have a working GB ROM to sink your teeth into. BTW, the screen off animation (old school tube TV shutting off) is one of my fav things about GB as well

My latest & greatest is that after a period of time (undetermined as of yet) it will 'forget' my settings - so, I want to use Dialer One as my phone interface and when I push the phone button, it asks me how I want to continue.....um, I want to continue how I've set my defaults up to continue, please

Intresting you say that. I've been experiencing little gliches. It forgets different ringtones that I have for different contacts among a couple of others.

All is good in incredible land. It's an amazing device and the community is really strong with a number of outstanding ROMs. How's the X treating ya? Wondering what new devices you've been keeping an eye on (if any)? I was thinking about the TB, but for the price it's not that much of an improvement to warrant axing my Inc. It's going to take a lot for me to part ways with it

Keeping my eye on the Bionic...hoping it'll have an unlocked bootloader (like I think they announced for the Xoom yesterday)... That would placate a lot of X users that were really hoping it would be cracked.

My X is awesome and I'm in no real hurry or need to upgrade...and the "window" doesn't open until August at the earliest anyway .

In the meantime, I'm still enjoying the fruits of exploring Gingerbread, etc. on the Eris...pretty sweet that its on our little phone that could .

Cheers!

Honestly, I have no reason to leave the Eris at this point now that I've found the support on here and XDA I need to make it a better phone (that's code for a big thanks to all of you on here).

I love how compact it is. I like to keep my phone in my pocket and not feel like I have an iPAD in there (oh, the dreaded Apple reference!). All of the new phones are just too big and bulky for me. Honestly, you know what the best phone I ever owned was? A 'chocolate bar' Nokia....small, compact, great reception.

I love what the Eris can do but most importantly love its size and convenience. I wish the cell phone makers would take my (and presumably other's) input on this and keep at least up with the times by introducing a nice compact phone like this more often.

My favorite was.............(Drumroll please, then you can laugh).....
The Star-Tac. Hey..........it WAS top-o-the-line at one point. But if you remember the screen? It's like Space Invaders compared to Mortal Kombat now LOL>

Always wanted a Star-Tac. Never had one though.

My favorite was first the Motorola Razor, then later a K-RIZR (slider version of the Razor.)
That K-RIZR was the last phone I've purchased that I was 100% satisfied with. That's sad, because I've bought many since then.

I kept my Razor-V3c for many years after I retired it, as a backup. If a new phone crapped out or I just didn't care for it as much as I thought I would, I'd switch back to the Razor until I was eligible for another upgrade.

Ahh, good times.

I am definitely loving my Eris, but I'll have no problem upgrading it to an Incredible (or whatever newer equivalent is available when I'm eligible again). Everyday I use this phone I am more convinced I would not be satisfied with an iPhone.

I love what the Eris can do but most importantly love its size and convenience. I wish the cell phone makers would take my (and presumably other's) input on this and keep at least up with the times by introducing a nice compact phone like this more often.
+1

"Is that an iPad in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" lol

Sorry, I know that was lame. But I couldn't help it.

Completely agree, no hurry here, either. I have 2 available upgrades on my account, but I haven't seen anything that makes me want to use them. Although, Verizon likes to keep telling me I can get the iPhone whenever I call or go online. I still can't believe the Eris has GB. It's pretty impressive for a phone still running 2.1 stock. if I didn't sell mine I would be on WiFi right now loading that baby up!

Ironically, the iPhone 4 is probably closer to the size of the Eris than any Android phone you can get on Verizon right now. Thinner than the Eris, too.

But it lacks the form factor!

The track ball doesn't wake my phone when it's taking a nap or when I'm on a call for more than a few minutes and the screen goes black. I still have to press vol up and the send buttons to wake it on a call. I have the trackball wake option checked. Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Input>Trackball wake. Am I missing something?

This happened to me as well. I don't have trackball wake on, but I could not wake the screen in a call without hold VolUp press send.

It works for me. I had to enable it but, since it was enabled, it's been working.

Try rebooting your phone. That's how I got the old timey TV thingy back.

I'm just wondering if the extra kick is worth the extra drain (assuming there is a trade-off).

I've been using Smartass and it's been working well. It seemed slightly smoother than Ondemand to me but I haven't extensively compared the two. I wonder which is better.

Had several issues start last night. Multiple FCs and laggy as hell. The occasional freeze too. Dialed the processor back to 608 and everything cleared up. @Scary Alien- I officially joined the X ranks at 10:15 this morning. It is FAST.

Ironically, mine seems to run more smoothly at 710 MHz. I wonder if the extra heat has a negative affect...
