Default Rooted Eris with xtrROM - getting Eris system update notifications today - help!

Hey there - I rooted my Eris a few weeks ago with the help of all your excellent tutorials. I am running xtrROM and have never been happier with my phone. This morning, I'm getting notifications that an HTC Eris system update is waiting to be installed and I need to restart my phone so it can install it. I keep hitting "update later" but it pops up every few minutes.

Can anyone tell me:
1. should I do this? will it break my phone?
2. is there a way to turn off the updates if not? eventually I will need to restart my phone and I don't want it to break things
3. If I'm running a rom, shouldn't it be ignoring system updates anyway?

I'm super new to all this, so don't assume I know anything or can tech-speak! THanks in advance for your help!

1. It should be ok to do it, as Amon's Recovery will fail to install it, and then the notification nags should stop. However, you may want to restart in Recovery and do a Nandroid backup, just in case, restart the phone and then let it try. If it does mess things up, at least you have the Nandroid restore to go back to.

2. If I remember right, if you ignore them long enough they stop bugging you. Long enough may be for a week, but I don't remember exactly.

3. It should, and I know that the ROM designers want to make sure that it doesn't check for OTAs. It seems that Zach.xtr missed something when he built the ROM. He knows of the issue, so hopefully there will be an update that fixes this very soon.

I can't remember if xtrROM has a reboot to recovery option when you long-press the power button, but if choose to ignore the update, long-press the power button and choose to power down the phone, and then restart while holding power up to get into Amon's Recovery - that would be how.

Also, the free Quickboot app in the Market has a boot into recovery option...which is nice...

Funny, last night I went to install this on the stock ROM and I had to remind myself that I cannot run apps that require root. It's amazing what you start to take for granted after a while.

I've actually removed Quickboot from GSB because GSB actually has a "reboot" option when you long-press power/end which gives you the option to restart in the Bootloader or Recovery. Nice.

+1 and lol...I agree...it was like traveling back in time somewhat after I un-rooted and went back to stock to try to capture the OTA... The background wallpaper, etc. I ran Ivan's for such a long time that Sense and stock didn't bother me that much, but it was just weird .

I saw how you posted (either here or on XDA, I can't remember) that now we can relax and return our phones back to their "new normal" (rooted) states.

It was fun to use eu1's Flashback2.1 after telling people about it for so long and to install his modded recovery. I've flashed more ROMs in the last two or three weeks than I had in the previous months , lol.

Cheers!

A data point... I absent-mindedly accepted the update install just an hour ago. It failed. I rebooted, no nag, and things appear normal... time will tell.

After saying that, I came *this close* tonight to restoring stock and seeing if I got the update message. And then I thought, why the heck would I want to go to all that trouble?

I will, though, as soon as I have decent battery tomorrow morning, re-install your Recovery again. For good.

lol...I've flashed it so many times during development (the first was the scariest )...

I haven't even had problems with my trackball, but I want to make sure that I put it back on.

I'm betting eu1's flashed the (Eris / Amon_RA) recovery more than anyone has .

I did the same thing, and no problems so far.
