Default Rapid battery drain immediately following charge

I'm currently on GSBv2.0 and have noticed something. I don't think it is specific to GSB, that is just the current ROM I'm using. Anyway, after charging the phone, if I only let it get to 99% or even to 100%, but don't let it stay on the charger for much longer, the battery seems to drain VERY quickly for the first 15, 20 minutes. Even if I'm not doing anything, it'll drop 10 or 15% real fast. And it's not anything stuck trying to sync or anything like that. It's almost like the % it shows isn't completely accurate while charging. It doesn't seem to drop quite as fast if I let it "over-charge" and the decrease in battery seems to slow down around 85% or so. Anyway, not a huge deal, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this as well.

Yes, this happens every once in a while. Yesterday, after taking it off the charge and walking downstairs, my phone was at 99% when I powered up and, after spending about 2 minutes looking through things, it was down to 97%. This morning I did the same - it was at 100% when I powered up, and stayed there those first few minutes, and was still at 100% 15 minutes later when I turned it back on. (Most morning are like yesterday.)

The best description is that the battery meter is lying to you. Actually not lying, just incorrectly estimating what the actual charge level is, then catching up to reality after a while. Most Li-ion charging systems will start trickle-charging the battery at 90% or so, to prevent too much stress on the battery, and then actually stop when it hits 100% and giving it short bursts to keep it charged up. The Eris green lights the charging LED at about 90%.

Anyway, I think that this article explains it better than I just did: Your Smartphone’s Battery Gauge is Lying to You (and it’s not such a bad thing) | Android Phone Fans

Thanks doogald for the helpful information (as always) and that was a great article describing exactly what was going on. Much appreciated! It's kind of funny how back before rooting I would come here to desperately try to make my phone usable on a daily basis without wanting to throw it into a wall... and now, since rooting, it's mostly just various curiosities. Awesome.
