Please please help!! Rooted phone yesterday wireless tether worked now it doesn't
I rooted my HTC Eris yesterday using the root for dummies on this site. The wireless tether worked perfectly. Today it will not work. I really want this to work because this is the reason I rooted the phone. I also installed the Plain Jane 2.0 rom. It looked like it might have been updating today--wireless tether. Other than that I don't know what might have happened. I spent all day yesterday by the time I got all my contacts back in, etc. I really don't want to have to redo everything. Also, I am having a problem with setting the wallpaper and then when I wake it from sleep there is some random wallpaper in place??? Don't know whats going on with that either. Some of the widgets I placed also disappear and reappear??? I could use some help but please tell me exactly what to try. I am not totally new to this but do need good directions. Is there a better rom than this?? I want something that will be fast (as possible) and possibly a way to save apps to SD card since the Eris doesn't have much internal storage. Thanks for reading this and giving me some input. I appreciate it very much!!!!
I can't tell you much about WiFi tethering, as I do not do it (save for the few times that I just tried it out), but I think that xtrSENSE is a better ROM than PlainJane for a number of reasons. The major one is that you will probably not need to mess with apps2sd - xtrSENSE includes a process that moves the Dalvik cache files for your user apps to another internal partition and gives you close to 30MB more space for user apps. Not only that, but the latest release includes the stuff that was recently updated in this month's OTA update, while PlainJane I believe remains unpatched.
I can't answer your other stuff about widgets.
I would make a Nandroid backup of what you have now just in case, but xtrSENSE and PlainJane are both so close to stock that I think that you can just flash over what you have without wiping data first (wiping Dalvik cache would be good, though.)
When you set wallpaper, there are two different wallpapers that you can set - one for the lockscreen and one for the Sense launcher background. They can be the same if you wish but are two separate steps.
xtrSENSE has WiFi tether as well; I think it should work fine. Of course you do know that using it is technically a violation of your contract. In case you didn't know, now you will.
GSB 2.1 wireless tether works fine. I use it all the time.

GSB 2.1 is a different ROM, and it includes a wireless tether app as well. You can find GSB here, but be advised that it's a bit different - read the instructions carefully - you must download and install a Google apps package as well, and, unlike xtrSENSE, it does not include cache2cache as a feature built-in - that is a third download and flash that you must do. Also, you would definitely have to set everything up from scratch again.
I'd try xtrSENSE (here)first and see how that works for you. Again, you can flash right over what you have, I am fairly sure, without having to set everything up again.
I had this problem when I first rooted my phone. Then I remembered that the night before I had gone into my Network Connections and connected the phone just like I would a wireless network. I know this is late but thought I would put it out there for future searchers.
