Yes, I'm an Eris dummy
My ph is rooted, and I did receive the update that was
sent out last week.
No, I did not install it yet....
Only reason I had to root was really for wireless tethering!
My question is, should I install this update while rooted?
I've done nothing to the ph other than root.
If I dont need the update how do I stop it from popping up all the time?

If you have a custom recovery installed (Amon_RA or Clockwork), the update will not install. The update requires the stock recovery for the Eris. If you have anything else, even if you tell it to install it will fail. And to stop it from popping up, if you do have a custom recovery, just tell it to install, let it fail, and then it should stop bothering you.
