Default New Market for Old Rom?

So I took the plunge a while back. Rooted now and running Vanilla 2.04 AOSP. Very pleased so far (tho I'm considering giving GSB a spin ). But... I sure would like to load the new Market onto my phone if possible. I've searched for the past couple of days without a good resolution. Ended up flashing a market update zip from XDA last night with no change whatsoever to my market app (Scratch that. The only change I noticed was wierd glitches and a total phone-crash earlier today. But no worries. Nand is my co-pilot). My guess is that my current market was just too old to be updated with that particular zip.

Application Info tells me that my market is at Version 1713, which sounds hella old if the current market is up to 2.2.7. Is there any way for me to update to the current market, or am I stuck where I'm at if I stay with Vanilla 2.04?

Thanks in advance.

The market *should* automatically update itself after a while.

FWIW, the version numbers of the 2.1 and Froyo/GB ROMs for the market are different that way.

If you do have a good Nandroid, what you could try is to copy the market from xtrROM or xtrSENSE over to /system/app, because I know that both of those are running what looks to be the latest version of the market. The market is vending.apk. Download either of the xtrs and unzip the file, and you should see it in the zip file.

I like Vanilla 2.0.4 as well, and may be running it if the automatic backlight worked.

Damn, you're quick.

I will give that a shot. Sounds fairly low-impact for my skill set. I've been on Vanilla for a couple months now, so I'm not sure it will auto update. Which is fine. A new challenge!

Thanks very much!
