Default Phone just hangs on reboot

Hey everyone...just flashed GSB over today on doogald's recommendation (after having a load of problems with KaosFroyo). I used v 2.5, and followed all the instructions -- wiped the phone and dalvik cache, flashed GSB, and then flashed the Gapps before rebooting. I got everything set up and my Titanium Backup restored, when the app drawer started hanging and not letting me scroll down.

I wondered if my Ti Backup had installed ADW Launcher (even though I told it not to), as these were problems I had with ADW. I went to the market to install Autokiller just so I could see what processes were running (and if any of them were ADW), but the text cursor kept moving backwards so I couldn't type the name. I rebooted the phone since that seems to have helped in the past, but it didn't get past the Cyanogen skateboarding Android animation. It just hangs there, endlessly, until I pull out the battery.

My battery was less than 15% when I rebooted the first time, when it had been working. I'm leaving it plugged in and off for now to see what happens. Does anyone have any tips and tricks for getting my phone back up and running again? This is the first time I've had a rooted device, and I only rooted a few months ago...

GSB seems to be totally stable, so I doubt it's the ROM causing the problem. But I am completely at a loss for what to do now.

I'd wipe and flash again, and when you restore from Titanium, don't restore any of the system data (any of the apps colored red or green.) See if that's better. Titanium restore can be problematic with system data between various versions of Android, and KF is version 2.2, while GSB is version 2.3.

Definitely make sure that you are well charged before you flash again, though. It's not the power level that caused the app drawer to hang like that. It could be that you restored Launcher Pro data over the built-in version, perhaps, though.

BTW, text cursor kept moving backward sounds a lot like a bad trackball. Erises tend to have this problem where it senses the trackball constantly moving to the left. That may explain the inability to type; that may also explain why the app drawer would not scroll, as it thought you were moving the trackball to the left, so tried to stay at the first icon in the app drawer. I hope that's not it.

SUCCESS!! Thanks!

Also, didn't know that about the trackball -- I always assumed it was a software issue, and when I swapped out ADW Launcher for Launcher Pro when I was using KaosFroyo, the cursor issues stopped. I'll try those tricks if it comes back.

Reinstall from scratch (wipe, ROM, Gapps) and complete at least one or two reboots to convince yourself that the problem is being caused by something you are doing with TiB.

Before you restore anything with TiB, make a nandroid backup. Then add your apps back in in groups, and make a nandroid backup after each additional group.

If a reboot fails, you will have a short list of apps which could be causing the problem, and your saved nandroid backups will save you from having to start over from scratch.

There's three ways you can do this from when the phone is in a powered-off state:

1. This works for some phones: press and hold the volume-UP toggle and then, while still holding the volume-UP, press the end/pwr button (keep holding the volume-UP button until you see the recovery screen (or it reboots normally)).

If that recovery boot method doesn't work, try this one:

2. You should be able to press and hold the volume-DOWN toggle and then the end/pwr buttons at the same time...this will bring you into the HBOOT screen. Now, press the volume-UP toggle to enter recovery.

3. Here's a longer / different way to get there too. You should be able to press and hold both the call/snd and end/pwr buttons at the same time...this will bring you into FASTBOOT mode. From there, press the volume-DOWN toggle. The phone will then show you the HBOOT screen. Now, press the volume-UP toggle to enter recovery.

Here's a post with basically the above (and a picture too ): Rooting and custom ROM questions...

Good luck!
