Default Dad needs Help......Kaosgingerbread

My son modified his HTC Eris. I looked under phone info and see that he currently has KaosGingerbread, AOSP, 2.42.01.04.27, with Kernel Vers 2.6.29-DecaFuctCFS-dirty-cd76c7c1conap@conap-laptop#20, Build Number KaosGingerbread V8.

I need to take his phone in for repairs before the warranty is up. I NEED to get the Eris back to original 2.1. I have no idea if he backed up his old system. Is there a FAST and EASY way to get his phone back to factory spec? I am as "green" as they come when it comes to this flashing/hacking/rooting stuff. I also have the same phone. Is there a way to copy my system onto my SD card and then use that to fix his? Any and All help will be appreciated.

Thanks

There sure is.

You need to download the file from here: [ROM][03/06/2011]FlashBack21 v2 -Return to Factory Stock - March 2011 OTA - xda-developers (get the one *without* the radio - you already have the current version.) It's called this: FlashBack21_v2_noRadioFlash.zip

- Copy that file to the SD card on the Eris, in the root directory (the root directory is the top directory on a disk - so, do not put it in a folder).

- Turn the phone off

- Hold down VolUp while you start the phone until you see the Recovery screen start (it should be green text on a black background.)

- [if that step above does not start Recovery, turn the phone off, turn it on while holding VolDn to start in HBOOT mode, then press VolUp when prompted to start Recovery]

- Use the trackball to go to the Backup/Restore menu, and then choose Nand backup to make a backup of what you have now

- When that is done, press VolDn to go back to the main menu

- Go to the wipe menu, and choose both Wipe data/factory reset and Wipe Dalvik cache. When those are both done, press VolDn to go back to the main menu.

- Go to the Flash zip from SD card menu, and choose the Flashback zip file

- Restart the phone

It will now be unrooted and stock.

By any chance, is your battery charge low?

If it is, turn off the phone, plug it in for a while to get it charged up, and try again.

How much free space is on the SD card?

Also, I am going to reference this post: Help

Quote:
If an error occurs when using Amon_RA, the exact cause of the error is almost always reported in the "recovery log". Not only that, but in the "other" menu in Amon_RA, there is an option to "copy the recovery log to the SD card." That allows you to save it for later review, or, what the heck: by using the "MS-USB toggle" after the copy to sd, you could look at the file on your PC without even ending the current Amon_RA boot.

Note that you need to copy the log to the SD card in the same session because it gets overwritten on new boots of the recovery.
So, if you can copy that recovery.log file to the SD card it should tell you exactly what the cause is.

Default Error

There is 7.29 GB available. His phone battery was at 80% or better. Battery was also cool while trying.

Here is what we have on SDcard:
.android_secure (Empty)
Android (Empty)
APPS(4.21MB)
Dcim(320KB)
FeebeRings (Empty)
GH_DATA (Empty)
LOST.DIR (Empty)
Flashback21 (99787KB)
gallery (13kb)

It does not look like he has anything from his original system saved/backuped. Is this the problem? Is there some other step I should do before following your instructions?

Thanks again in advance for everything.........

You can skip the nand backup. That's only for restoring the current state of the phone.
