Default Trackball toast

My trackball is toast. Can't navigate around Amons recovery to flash and wipe. Is there a version available that uses the side buttons to navigate?

Alls not lost, Here's what you want. Amon_RA 1.6.2 Custom Recovery: trackball not required! ( 1 2 3 ... Last Page)

Thanks. I'll give that a try. I was barely able to wipe and flash for Ginger Tazz 18 today.

I never even use my trackball other than for Amon's recovery. Surprised that it's wearing out an not working on a phone that is only 14 months old.

Trackballs still work on both of my Eris's. Installed Scary's "Trackball Not Required" on both without a hitch.

The trackball is notoriously bad on the Eris - many people have had this problem. (Lucky for me, though, mine remains fine, though I put that alternate recovery on just in case.)

OK. I finally got a chance to try and do this. I have scenario #3 but after extracting the zip file I am lost?

Isn't there an easier way to do this by just flashing a zip file and POOF you have a version that works without the track ball?

i have an IMG file that is flashable thru hboot, but you must have the s-off bootloader. if youre not allready s-off,and/or have no idea what that even means, then the best option is to continue on the path that youre on.

first what rom are you running? if youre NOT running GSB 2.8 or above, simply move on to this box to continue:

Launch a new Gscript Lite instance and:

A. press the soft menu button
B. select Add script option (lower left)
C. press the Load file button
D. select the gscript-sa.sh script
E. leave the Needs SU? checkbox checked (you need root for the flash to work)
F. press the Save button (lower left)
G. you'll now be returned to the main Gscript Lite menu and you should
see gscript-sa available at the bottom of the list of scripts
H. to run the script, short-press the gscript-sa script name
I. you should be prompted by the SuperUser whitelist app to allow
the Gscript program to run the /system/bin/sh as root (select Allow)

if you are running a GB rom, then you might try and get one last flash out of your tracball and restore a 2.1 or 2.2 rom to get the recovery working,if the steps needed to flash the recovery on a GB rom confuse you.

rest assured, the recovery will stick... it doesnt matter what rom youre on when you install it,it will always be there for you

As long as you can stil work your phone, you want to install Scary Alien's version of Amon_RA recovery. See Amon_RA 1.6.2 Custom Recovery: trackball not required!

You would be scenario 3. If your phone is so messed up that you cannot do it that way, then you'll have to try scenario 4. It looks daunting, but it's not really so bad.

finally got it working, had to use scenario 4 and the adb method would not work so I used the fastboot. Thanks again!
