Default Rooting and Eris

Hi all, I am a new user and in need of help. I Had an HTC incredible, but it got stolen, and I bought an Htc droid eris off of ebay, seeing as it would be cheaper. I bought it and it is rooted, it is still to come here (still in mail), but I was wondering what should I do to backup things in case the phone crashes or anything like that, or if I could switch it back to android os? also what do you guys have on your rooted androids, what are the ups and downs? thanks a lot for the help, It is greatly appreciated.

I would suggest reading through this thread to start: Reasons to Root !!

You can back things up in two ways, one is through nandroid backups, the other is through an app called Titanium backup. To learn more about making nandroid backups and rooting in general, I suggest reading: Universal Eris Root for Dummies!
