Default How do I unroot w/ broken trackball?

My trackball suddenly stopped working last night. I need to call Verizon and have my phone replaced (AGAIN). But since my trackball isn't functioning, I don't know what to do to un-root the phone. Help!

Did you put Scary's trackball optional on it? They will probably give you an incredible.

No, I did not. And now I need to talk to tech support and I'm terrified that I need to send my phone back (because it's my luck they'll send me a 4th refurb in 2 yrs instead of upgrading me) and I have no way to unroot.

if you are comfortable with ADB,you can put the flashback rom on your sd card, and use eu1's commands in this thread: Flashing Rom, Trackball not working! while in recovery.

if you dont have adb setup and arent comfortable going that route, scary aliens optional recovery if your best bet all this time and you dont have it allready? shame on you, kpg, lol!

you should be able to get the trackball optional recovery working without a tracball.

if you happen to be s-off,scary and i whipped up a recovery flashable thru hboot. weve both used it and it works fine. in an abosolute worse case if it dint work and bricked your phone you could just send back a bricked phone rather than a tracball not working phone, lol. the download link is in post 8 of this thread if youre game for that: making an hboot flashable recovery

Okay, I'm confused. I am downloading the flashback rom now. I have the thread up about flashing ROMs without a trackball - which I read most of the last time I had a track ball issue. And I'm thinking, if I remember correctly, that I would've had to root with the Amon version that supports navigation other than the trackball.

Maybe I'm just completely brain dead. But I'm not sure what to do now and really unsure of ADB (never used it and don't have it on my puter). Do you have a "unrooting for dummies with broken trackballs" tutorial?

First, do you actually use the trackball, other than for navigating around Amon's Recovery? If not, it may be better just to keep the Eris you have. Just a thought.

To get a version of Amon's Recovery that does not require the trackball, you can install the version of Amon_RA that Scary Alien created that works with the keys as well as the trackball. Since you are already rooted, all that you need to do is to install the app Gscript off the market (if you are running a ROM that doesn't already include it - the xtr ROMs have it already), then download a .zip file from this post, and follow the instructions in Scenario 3. I have done it myself and it is pretty simple. Scary really does have a great explanation and instructions in that post. You do not need to mess with ADB at all.

Once you have this Recovery running (it actually tells you that it is trackball optional on the bottom of the screen when you are booted into Recovery), then you can flash the Flashback21 ROM to bring the phone back to stock ROM with stock Recovery.

Okay, guys - my trackball limps along when I plug in the USB cord and wiggle (obviously a hardware issue). I was able to wipe everything, flash Flashback, and go back into my sd card and purge all of the crap I had in there.

What should my "About" section re:firmware say about my phone if I'm back to stock 2.1? I just want to dbl check everything before I have to schlep my cookies to Fed Ex to mail my phone back.

Thanks!!

kpg,

lol...if you get a "new" (replacement) Eris, what's the second thing you will install (after rooting, of course)?

Glad you got that puppy un-rooted!

Cheers!

I was able to get the trackball to work (sporadically) enough to do universal root with Amons Recovery - No trackball needed. Now I don't have to send it back to Verizon. When I spoke with a Customer Service Rep., she said the best they could do for me is send my YET ANOTHER refurb and make she could give me an earlier upgrade date: August (my current upgrade date is Sept.). Woo-hoo! So, I'm glad to have just gotten Amon's on there. My trackball is completely dead now.
