Default something wierd just happened...

mmkay,so i refreshed my "eris all things root" window a little while ago,and some goofball had brought up a couple of old "how to root 2.1" threads with links to his webpage with directions on how to root 1.5 and above with "androot".

i downloaded it and figured id check it out, maybe return to stock and see if it even worked, but now the threads have vanished i can use my browser history to go back to them and see the response, but if i refresh them his replys are gone, and the threads are no longer up top of the forum. i presume them to be back in their correct chronological spot according to the last post.

i presume maybe a mod deleted them and put the threads where they belong? or maybe im just crazy? or abducted by aliens and returned to a different reality?

just curious if anyone else experienced this strange phenomenon

Your right his post is gone infact the whole thread is gone. I read his post earlier thinking why is this guy asking a question and then putting the answer on his website. I didn't click on his link. You didn't get abducted or anything.

whew! im glad! thanks bc,i knew there had to be someone else with no life lurking on here the whole day that may have seen it,lol. the threads i saw were started back in june of 2010

i downloaded that androot thingy, and ran the flashback rom to get back to stock, but after the threads disapeared it made me leery of tryin it. so i just placed my tracball optional PB00IMG on the SD card, booted to hboot and let it update. rebooted, deleted the PB00IMG file, power off and back to recovery and flashed rootme.zip so now im on a stock rooted 2.1 without running the one click app or doin the dummies method

mebbe ill go back to stock again and give that thing a try later, for sh*ts and giggles. or maybe ill just restore comdemned, lol. im bored with flashing stuff on the TB until some more progress is made, lol.

Kinda looks like we are the only two without a life. The forums have been really dead lately huh. Might have to pay a visit and do some tinkering. .

It's always tough to moderate forums like this. When things get busy, the easy thing to do is to delete posts quickly, but then you get situations like this, where people recall seeing a post that disappears without an explanation. The correct thing to do is to delete the text and replace it with an editor explanation, but it's a heck of a lot easier to just delete a spammy post, especially if there is a lot of moderation to do.

right... usually if a mod just deletes a post, the thread will remain at the top of the list. if the posts had been deleted, but the threads were still there,it wouldnt have confused me so much. but the whole threads were gone,lol... did a number on me. member it doesnt take much to confuse me!

if we need help with moderation,id be willing to volunteer my services. im here every day

You and me both. Actually I'm probably on more because I monitor the forums all-day.

Yeah, I got the weird emails re. those posts (I was actually subscribed to at least two of them, so I got notified). I was like, what-the-heck? why was someone necro-posting and then they weren't there, etc.

I actually think that there was probably just some glitch on AF that caused this (i.e., database related).

I still don't think this rules-out Scotty being crazy, though...

Well, if you researched if Universal Androot is based on the same rooting method that Z4 root uses (rageagainstthecage), you could skip it since I already tried Z4 root (it worked, although I can't remember if it was the permanent or temporary that worked... I did it back when we were trying to capture the latest OTA and I had flashed-back to stock but rooted with Z4 too).

Which of our 11 dimensions do you wish to travel to? (I'm a big superstring theory fan, btw (The Elegant Universe and The Fabric of the Cosmos, both by Brian Greene...awesome books)). I'm sure we could arrange something .

i didnt do alot of research on it... found this on the CM wiki:
Universal Androot - CyanogenMod Wiki

while it doesnt say its based on z4roots methods,it does sort of seem that way doesnt it?

Wow...sparse info in there... The wiki link takes you to the "official" blog page that says "Universal Androot exploits a writeUI back door..." (I don't know if that's what the rageagainstthecage exploit was based on (I looked at the C-code a while back, but its not ringing a bell).

Also, the Eris is not (although it usually isn't) listed as a device that it works on (same is true for Z4 root too).

Cheers!
