Scary is talking about the capacitive menu button on the phone. Long press it at any time, even on your homescreen, and the keyboard will come up. From there you can press 2.

This didn't work for me when I had this issue with GSB recently. I created an 'contact' for *228,,,2 instead to update my PRL.

I've always been fine with long pressing menu to get the keyboard up then hitting the button to switch the keyboard to numbers and pressing number too... alternatively you can dial *22899 and that will go straight to PRL update without prompting for a selection.

I've always done it just by doing *22899 but I just tried it the "long" way and yes, no numberpad and long-pressing the menu button didn't bring up the keyboard... I actually had to hit the home button to get anywhere.
