Default KaosFrooyo v38 and no camera support

Picked up an Eris on Ebay real cheap because I could no longer stand my Windows Mobile 6.5 (freezes up real bad) and my contract has another year. This Eris was rooted with KaosFroyo v38, which was why I bought it. It was cheap and works great, no lag and or freeze. The only problem is that the camera doesn't work. Is there a ROM that works well and will allow me to use the camera?

Also, I had to reset the phone to factory defaults, which luckily didn't get rid of KaosFroyo. Now I'm not sure if it's still rooted. How can I tell? I am new to all this, but am geeky enough to learn how it's done.

There are plenty. I personally do not like or recommend Kaos Froyo anymore. Right now, I think that the best ROMs for the Eris are:

2.1, close-to-stock:
xtrSENSE
xtrROM

Gingerbread:
GSB
Condemned Souls' CM7
Tazz's CM7 ROM

The rest of them have some sort of problem that those above will fix (namely, Navigation issues, camera issues, GPS issues, etc.) I will say, though, that the Gingerbread ROMs are a bit more complicated to install and need a bit of tweaking to run well.

I'm not sure how you factory reset, but if you can start a custom recovery (from the phone being powered down, press and hold VolUp while you power on) that shows a menu when it starts - usually green text on a black background - you are still rooted. I'm 100% sure that you are still rooted, but worth a check anyway, as that will be how you install another ROM. Rooting this phone is rather trivial anyway these days if you have, in fact, managed to unroot it. Which you didn't...

[ROM] 6/23/11 Condemned CM7 V12 CM7.1 RC 1 - xda-developers
[ROM][6/23] GSB v3.6 Odex/De-OdexFIXED | GB 2.3.4 [CM-7.1.0 RC1 NIGHTLY] - xda-developers
[ROM][GPL] xtrROM5.0.1 odex,cache2cache,apps2sd,jit,lwp,oc[3/29/2011] - xda-developers
[ROM][GPL][3/15/2011] xtrSENSE5.0.1 [cache2cache,apps2sd,oc,jit]-HTC Sense - xda-developers

Thanks for the information. I am able to get to the green screen, so I assume that it's still rooted, as you said. I'll be thrilled to have the camera working.

I would get condemned v11 stripped to hell, I thought other roms were good but when I flashed this I was shocked in how quick and stable it is.

I only use my Eris for a backup now but it's had condemned's rom on it since V3 and is the only rom I'll run on it. I see you in the Inc forum as well. Do you know he has one for the Inc too?
