I used the track ball to make my selections. I installed 2.1 easily and I would have to say it is RUNNING GREAT! I am glad I just loaded the leaked file...But what is going to happen when the OTA comes and we already have 2.1? Will we have to do the process over?

now 2.1 for sure has to get root!!! That would be awesome! Then though I will be rooting for root on the incredible if it is so incredible...if not... N1(2) will be mine!!!

I'm sorry if someone already stated this question but I am new to the forum. If droid eris does get 2.1 will the root production already in effect be pointless? Will the root for current 1.5 no longer work?

More than likely 1.5 will not be rooted... With this new 2.1 rom that came out everyone is looking for root for 2.1.. I wouldnt get my hopes up for root with 1.5

FIrst off thank you for breaking my forum cherry ^_^ and yeah that's what I was expecting. The few people I know that got their hands on 2.1 says it exceeded their expectations so hopefully 2.1 root will be intense.

I assume all work on ROOTing the eris has stopped until the complete and official version of 2.1 comes out. I hope someone can ROOT 2.1 so I can change more settings. I want trackball colors and setting such as how long it stays lit or how fast it pulses. I'd also like to change my notification LED.

It has not, they're still working on things in the irc. And I'm sure there are others out there working on it still as well.

Definetly exceeded my expectation on how smooth my phone would run, has not exceeded my expectation of bugs. The new software borught on a couple MINOR bugs but all in all I am extremely happy . My phone has never ran as smooth as it does now, could be the wipe and re organazing of my downloads but it's great.... I am now running three diffrent homes to, trying to figure out what I like best between Home,Sense and DXtop

Took me 3 hours to get the 2.1 on my phone...2.5 hours of that was trying to figure out what my google account information was (I NEVER log into it), 15 minutes to download the rom, and 5 or less to actually install. It was a long night.

So far I'm very happy with it. Like ChiTownJim said, a couple minor bugs, but overall great stuff!

Has anyone else with 2.1 been getting account login errors ie, have to re login to your google account, every now and then?

Does the 2.1 run smoother just cuz its a better OS or does it allow to do more other than google maps navigation and google goggles? We still need a root. Nexus 2.1 already has root why not us?! But you can expect the new OS to have minor bugs just like the eris did before the first 2 ota bug fix updates.

I think it runs smoother because of the way it handles processes, memory, and just being a better OS. Some have said it's because it's a fresh start which may be partially true but I've downloaded I'd say 90% of the apps I had before and have download another 10 or so that I didn't have on 1.5.

EDIT
Just realizedd I posted another 2.1 topic in the root thread, my bad

Yeah, that "New Thread" button maybe needs to be more obvious.

I thought the general consensus was that HTC had patched up Android 1.5 pretty tight and that attempting to hack it via any remaining exploits were futile.... Of course, people thought they'd root 2.1 within a week of it being out (I love how people put timeframes on things like this). What they forgot -- minor issue and all -- is that HTC hasn't released the source for 2.1 (yet). Doh !!

You don't need the source code to root a phone.

MY next question is...does 2.1 have multitouch and sense ui? And for any root that is going to be made will it have multitouch regardless of the OS?

Nope. Overclocking has nothing to do with the OS being 2.1. You have to be rooted for overclock apps to work. The Eris is not rooted (yet).

No worries, many don't know about IRC...

Click the following link to learn instructions to get on IRC (and what it is)

When you get your "irc client", go to:

Ok I'm new to the forum and new to phones in general. I dont know if its anything special but when browsing my phone on Astro file manager I am able to see my Root folder and I'm able to back up apps and see system files. I know I couldn't do that in android 1.5 but since I got 2.1 I've been able to. Is this a breakthrough I've stumbled upon?

You were able to do this with 1.5 also its nothing new. We can see the files but we can't write or modify them.

Does anyone think it might be easier to find a useable exploit in the leaked 2.1, than a possibly better patched official 2.1

The kernel version being used is very, very unlikely to change at this late stage of the "testing" process. Way too risky.

Could you find one thing for us, that I'm everyone will want to know now: what is the speed of the processor? Is it severely underclocked, or is it really not that far from 528 mhz? I, personally, just saw root as being good for some hardware tweaks and not much else. If it's in the 300mhz range, great, I'll drop all the crap VZW and HTC stuck me with, like Footprints, and bump the processor up to 400 and see how fast it is.

2.1 and Root less then 3 weeks apart!!!

It seems that HTC Taiwan will have to be searched more as new phones come out.

This is definitely going to sound amateurish, but what happens when you just do a normal factory reset? Isnt that supposed to reset the phone to how it came out of the factory? Which was with 1.5...

WOOOO!!!! So pumped! I have never rooted before, and don't even know what exactly what I would do with root other than speed the phone up a bit (don't even know how that is possible. Mine has no lag at all and seems lightning quick)...but I am so excited for root! Glad I didn't switch to 2.1!!

IRC stands for internet relay chat. So go d/l a IRC client like mIRC or xChat (for linux) and the server is irc.thefuzz4.net and the channel is #DroidEris

IRC is the oldest form of internet chat
