Default QPST Service Programming Error??

I tried to update the prl using the tutorial here:

Update prl using QPST

I used this tutorial to update the prl on my Optimus M; no problems. But, when I went to do this today, I get to the part where I run the service configuration on COM3 and the phone shows up but when I hit OK it says "online connection failure: unspecified error".

I have the phone connected with the internet setting; that is the only way to allow USB debugging, which I presume is necessary to flash the prl with QPST. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Looks like all the drivers did not install try this re- install the drivers with your phone in charge only while connected to your pc then power off and then back on ur phone while connected to pc see if that works then retry the prl update.

I tried this and it is not working. I'm not sure if I downloaded the wrong drivers or what. I got a set in a zip from LG and another one as an MSI from the forums. Nothing is working. I have some devices that show up with issues in the device manager; I can't get the phone to install the drivers now. *sigh* I hate LG..

Things to Consider... did you select the right port? The driver was successfully installed? Did you unplug the phone and plug it back? After the Installation of the driver found in the zip, did you run autorun and installed the additional driver?

Just in case you have to go out of the 4G area. It's better to have the best PRL for 3G reception.

yup. that's what i though until i ran several tests and compared prl 3019 with 3025 and it seems FOR ME that prl 3025 gives me more speed and more reception and it is also more constant.

Not sure what drivers you downloaded and installed but, this phone comes with all the drivers. I have never downloaded any drivers and my phone works perfectly. The first time you plug your phone in an 'autorun' should pop up, that installed my drivers for me. I've updated my prl, used mass storage, and ran adb and all have worked without needing to download anything extra.

when my drivers stop working I just, while usb is connected, toggle debug mode off then back on again and the computer re-recognizes (a word?) the phone and reloads the drivers. works just about every time...easy.

As far as autorun, I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe this is where my mistake was? What happens there?

Not to be sarcastic, but to give some background: I've been in computers since I was five (Vic 20 color computer, comedore 64, apple II gs, IBM 386).

I'm sure the drivers installed successfully; as sure as one can be when one install drivers. I saw no conflicts in the device manager, etc.

I unplugged and plugged the phone back in; I even tried that with three USB slots. Sometimes, the computer does a separate install on separate uSB ports by asking for drivers again even though it should know where the drivers are.

I had the right com port; you can't get the error that I did by getting the wrong one. I don't' believe you can start the programming client without selecting an active port.

I had device manager conflicts with the drivers that windoze wanted to install. Else I wouldn't have bothered... My next plan was to try this with another machine. I'll do that now. Maybe my distro is screwed on this machine...

How do you use LGNPST to update the prl? Is there a link to a tutorial? I ran a search and found a page that offered LGNPST for download, but no longer does. I found mentions of a tutorial, but no tutorial. Help please???

I found a solution for the drivers issue. It seems that it is better to dl the LG mobile support tool and select MetroPCS as carrier and select the model number for this phone as the model. I was not sure what the model number was.

I remembered that our Optimus was somethingsomething 690. So, I went to the next highest number, I googled that code and up popped a pic of the Esteem. So, I used that as the install distro. I toggled charge/internet as Blaxican and therad1 suggested; it helped. The drivers all installed.

I recommend using this method to install drivers. Now I am going to see if QPST is working once I scan the QPST distro for virii with A-Squared. I'll be back with more info. Thank you to all who responded.

WOW, after doing this on two machines, disabling and re-enabling modes, usb debugging, and doing every soft of alternative install method, toggle, and what not that I can think of I still get the same, stupid error. "Online connection failure: Unspecified error". WTF?

Can you give me the .dll, the tutorial, and the LGNPST links? I can't seem to find anything but people talking about these things. Where are they dling all this stuff from?

You have to follow the same steps for installing the LGNPST but you are not going to reprogram the whole firmware just the PRL, the VS910.dll works without any problems, and even I did it once with the MS690.dll (the Optimus dll)

Now I am confused. I got all these links and stuff, but how do I use this to put a new PRL on the phone? I have the PRL files 22-26 and I've done this with QPST before. This method looks alien to me.

So, do I just put the prl in the folder with the dll files and run it? How do I move the prl from the computer to my phone? The tutorial does not even mention prl files and I am too inept at developing to know what to do. Thank you for your help.

Please understand, I was up all night until early morning working on this phone. I woke up and did the same today. I can't keep losing time on a non-working phone. I went through this with the Optimus and I'm still not happy with it. I feel like I spent more money on more problems.

After LGPNST is installed and the dll is registered, find your SPC and copy it to a notepad. (the app will ask for it to write the prl) Open LGNPST, you have your phone plugged in and make sure the aplication has identified your phone and it should show details in the box on the right. It'll have details of your phone including your phone number.
Now in the "Provision" box towards the bottom where you see "Upgrade", you will look there for a PRL/ERI tab. Click it, and it should take you to the tab and you will see checkboxes with labels like "Write", "Read", "PRL", and "ERI" as well as two little icons to the left of PRL that look like a folder and a trashcan. Click the folder icon and find you .prl file you downloaded, click the open and then check the box with "Write" next to it. Then hit the big button at the bottom that says "Start". A popup will show asking you to input your spc code. Input your SPC code then hit "Ok" and let the program do its things, AND DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE DURING THIS PROCESS. Leave your phone alone until the process is done. Dont touch it. During the process, you phone should reboot and come back to its lock screen, however DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE until the application on the computer says it is complete. Once it is done, you should be updated to a new PRL, and feel free to check your phone settings to be sure.

Does the MS690.dll work with the Esteem? Isn't that an optimus dll?

I had trouble registering the the dll. The file says: "Then drag and drop MS690.dll on top of the file Reggie.exe. This will register the .dll file."

I get an error: HRESUTL == 0x80020009 Exception occurred.

So, I figured I needed administrative privileges and tried to give reggie those privileges; I did not want to disable UAC. That didn't work.

So, I went to the start menu and typed "cmd" to call the command prompt and I right clicked on that and ran it as administrator. After that, I typed "cd.." a few times to clear directories and bring me back to C prompt.

In C prompt I wrote :

<code>
cd LG Electronics <enter [I pressed the enter button, I did not type this string]>

cd LGNPST <enter>

cd Model <enter>

cd MTP <enter>

Reggie MS690.dll
</code>

After that, I got a pop-up telling me that registration was successful. I am on to the next steps.

Good!!! After registering you can open the LGNPST and you will able to change the PRL on the Esteem using the optimus dll or even the Revolution dll.
We are having a hard time trying to register the MS910.dll for recovering the Esteem.

I wish I had read this before. I never got to trying the PRL cause the phone type was "UNKNOWN" in LGNPST. After digging around and doing some PMing, I saw that another MS dll is available and the Revolution dll is too. So, I uninstalled all the software and install another version of LGNPST. I couldn't uninstall one of the programs; parts of it are still stuck on my PC -- I tried to use a registry cleaner, etc. and hope for the best.

*sigh*

I plan to get all my files and all the posts together on another machine and try all of this again sometime tonight. I'll let you know how it goes...

I got a new phone, QPST still does not work on two machines. I'm going through with this LGNPST process. I'll be back to let everyone know how it goes...

Now what do I do? I re-installed LGNPST and when I did the right click register, it said "the module [insert name here].dll did not load." I can't get any dlls to register now. It worked earlier, but the phone was unknown so I looked for another version of LGNPST and now I can't register the dlls...

Help please...

If your having problems uninstalling the componemts , us a program called CCleaner. Then go to tools and click on the component files, the run uninstaller. It worked for me. Then just be sure, I would run the registry cleaner that comes with it also after. Here is a link. This is freeware and recommended by CNET.

CCleaner - Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download

Hope this helps!

That was the program I used to try to clean out the registry, but it didn't work for the first time ever. I still had some crap in my add remove programs dialog box. *sigh*

I'm going to try this from scratch at some point when I have the patience for it. I might even reformat this PC first.. It's overdue for a format and I wasted more than enough time poking through files and registry entries...

Reformatting will definitely fix your problem. I couldn't get it to delete the components fully either I deleted as much as I could then reinstalled everything. I got an error reinstalling the components but when I used the program it worked.

Formatting might be the safe way to go if it needs a format anyway.

Install this little program, it will let you register any dll. Just a right click on the dll and click Register.
