Hey guys, made a kernel to fill the other side of the coin. Thanks to PG for the help on packing it up and stuff
It's meant to go with my LG Esteem Optimizer, although it can be used alone as well.
It's focus is battery life cause 8 hours is just a wee bit too short for me, and since the gingersteem rom is pretty speedy, adding this kernel just helps it out so it's about 12 hours of normal use. At the moment it doesn't have overclocking or anything fancy. When combined with the optimizer I've gotten 25 hours on the stock battery
The homeless kernel is meant to be thrifty, but can still run fast enough from stray dogs in dark alleys lol
-Built from LG Source
-Currently being tweaked to find best stuff, i'll post new versions as I find stuff.
Sorry I had to use mediafire to post it, ugh. But for some reason I couldn't upload the attachment here.
Homeless Kernel 1.2
2/26/2012
-Changed from low resolution timer GP_TIMER to high resolution DG_TIMER after looking at some stuff, it's experimental at the moment, testing it out.
-Removed some junk from the kernel
-Enabled Adaptive Voltage scaling (possibly to save more battery)
-Enabled experimental UACCESS_WITH_MEMCPY (possibly speed some stuff up)
kanaida.homeles.v1.3.zip
2/29/2012
-Fixed something I did by accident hehe
-This new kernel has given me 10h 15Min on an extended battery with 75% left so far
-Keeps the new additions in 1.2, fixes the lower battery life regression

How does it accomplish better battery life? Is it undervolted? Does HDMI work?
Looking forward to future updates with (hopefully) modest overclocking cpu slots I only go as high as 1.5 ghz now. Just a few games that could use the extra help now and then. Normal tasks run fine without overclocking.
Thanks for your work on this It's great to see the community coming alive for the esteem.
Thanks. Ill add more details in the notes later to give a better description. It's a work in progress but so far I default to the deadline io scheduler and tweaked some power management components around. Haven't tried HDMI yet but I will everything else seems to work perfectly as well, nothing funny and I've used it for a day or so. Bluetooth and all.
I can definitely see myself using this, I don't get many chances to charge my phone, never home till late at night, so longer battery life is more than welcome lol
great news!!!! it will be my official kernel for any rom lol, i never oc my device and battery life is o so important to me lol, thanks a lot dude!!

what games do you play that require oc'ing? im just genuinly curious lol if its a good game than ill pobly get it haha
1500mAh, stock battery. No battery saver apps, task killers, memory managers, just my Lg esteem optimizer with it's passive startup tweaks. I'm trying to get the gingersteem rom to get as much as I did with the stock rom so far (up to about 17 hours of light use on one charge.)
I'm not a hardcore gamer. I play the simple stuff with my 7 year old son. But games like battle heart wind-up knight, need for speed shift, air attack hd, home run battle 3d, riptide, raging thunder, trial x, and nanosaur 2 all run smoother with a little help from overclocking. Android has saved me the expense of a true gaming system. Between my phone and tablets, I'm good

thats awesome!! good enough reason for oc'ing the device!!
sadly i dont have time for gaming anymore so all i need is battery life lol
but ill admit when i found out gta3 was an app i had to try it... ran pretty decent without oc'ing so i bet it would be awesome with a lil cpu kick!! lol

I'm pretty sure this will safely flash over the current roms. I'd make a backup in recovery first though as a precaution. I've got it running flashed over Gingersteem 1.0 because that one just felt a little smoother to me and didn't have bluetooth pairing issues at the time, even though they're probably solved by now.
As far as overclocking, well honestly stuff seems to run fast enough for me that it's always very snappy, I mean you might get a few frames extra in some games but in the end i'd rather be able to play my tower defense games longer than run a tiny bit smoother, but that's just me. After I tweak it for battery and get feeback i'll see how I can add one or two small slots to maybe 1.3-1.4Ghz but default to 1Ghz.
I'm starting a long running test today
Gingersteem 1.0
Homless 1.0 flashed over it
Lg Esteem Optimizer with chuck norris battery setting
so far with light use 5% battery seems to = 1+/-hour of light use.

After I installed, it was in a bootloop on LG screen. I flashed back to PG kernel and boots fine. I tried two different downloads(dl both on computer), both bootloop. I am on MT's GingerSteem ROM.
edit: nevermind, third times the charm.

I did a factory reset and installed. It loaded up with LDk-ICK 1.3 does that sound right?
It's just a kernel so whatever rom you had before will still look the same, the kernel itself is not visible except in the settings\about screen where it will say:
lg-electronics@android-vm #6 if the kernel took.

Perfect got it. Thank you so much. You are the man. Keep up the excellent work. Any upcoming updates to LG Esteem Optimizer?

Once I can get CPU Governor settings to stick i'm gonna add a section for choosing cpu frequencies and governor, It's just one other less app to install. Sometimes you just wanna adjust something like the governor or cpu speed, but have to have all kinds of stuff you'll never use included along with those apps. Not that it's bad, but I like one stop shops with a small footprint

HDMI confirmed working..

Thanks. phew! I think that about checks off everything.
audio/video/sensors/gps/touch working fine
wifi connects to new networks and works
bluetooth pairs with new devices and connects
hmdi works.
No reported bugs yet.
More stable than I thought for a first release
would you use juice defender or setcpu for some charging profiles and screen off profiles with this or not?
i have had success with using them in the past.
just wondering what everyone else is doing.
I haven't had too much success trying those things on this phone, and had one app tear apart my apn settings and i had to do a factory reset because I couldn't access data.
To be honest though, if you run any app and it has to check things periodically, it's eating some cpu and power so in my opinion it's best to find root causes that eat power when idle, and tame those instead. The root causes, because those can be corrected without adding additional load on the cpu, free energy you could say. That's how my optimizer app deals with stuff and it only has to apply tweaks at startup, but the app doesn't have to stay running to work. This kernel is meant to compliment that by tweaking more things that I normally couldn't tweak during boot.
My phone's been on now for 5h 35m, and I've got 79% batt left now. I think that will be more than enough now anyways
I did the math, but I swear i must be adding wrong... lol
5.5hrs * 5 = 27.5 hours. on 1500mAh regular battery with light use.
Normally I go to sleep and if I forget to charge i'm screwed
Hopefully it lives up to my math. by later tonight i'll know

8 1/2 hrs and still 73% left. This is streaming Pandora for about 7 of those hours, about 2 hrs total of 4g web browsing, 37 texts, 14 min phone call, and updating 2 apps on 4g. Pretty damn nice so far.

Gonna fully charge extended battery, and see how long it lasts with homeless kernel, playfulgod's, and blitzkrieg oc'd at 1ghz.
Will post up results later.
Gonna be heavy on the battery, crappy signal (battery eater), animations, pandora running, brightness all the way up, and screen always on, see which one last more.
I flashed the kernel and played a few games with my son (you know, for science ) ... all ran smoothly. Looking forward to seeing the battery life with my normal routine tomorrow.

if this works kaniada, im buying your lg esteem optimizer again to say thanks ive needed more battery life for so long now. overclocking has never been to much of a need now that i hardley game on it.
edit: flashed plague kernal, then flashed the homeless kernal right after and it worked.

OK. That's really hard to believe, i'm sorry. But that is almost impossible. Lol
Edit ; please, at least and most a 1.5ghz. Would be real nice.
