Default [Request] Custom status bar

Is someone willing to take time out of there life to make me a custom status bar?

I want a status bar just like the ics one but with white icons and turn battery sideways. I also want them to be arranged like how the iPhone 4s is and the background to be a transparent black.

I'll see what I can do. I don't know about the order of icons but everything else is easy.

Check it out. The best thing to do would be for you to manually insert the icons into your current theme being that you really only want the status bar to change. Reason I say this is because you cant just change the status bar. Everything will have to change, unless you want to keep your current theme or add the status bar to another theme.

So I can either

A. Give you everything you will need, Icons, to change it your self into the current theme you have.

B. You tell me what theme you want to add the status bar to and I can do that. Remember though, if you ever change themes you will loose the status bar.

Your best bet is to learn to change out the Icons yourself. And I say this not because I dont want to do it but because if you ever change themes in the future you can swap out the needed icons to basically move your status bar to your next theme. Make sense?

Changing out images is very very easy. The only things you need is 7Zip, the icons and the knowledge of where they go which is 1 of 2 folders. You basically unzip the file. Copy and paste the images. It will always ask if you want to copy over the existing images. That way you will always know you are in the right folder. if it doesnt ask you then your in the wrong one, but like i said it's only 2 folders we are dealing with here.

Let me know what you want to do. I already have MOST of the icons for you. The only thing I dont have is the battery icon and that will not take long. I will prolly not be able to have the % with the battery, it will just be the battery icon with no numbers.

Let me know what you decide and I will help you through it.

Okay here we go. Follow my directions and you will have no problems. If the status bar is TOO transparent, let me know and I will make you another one and send you the images. This might seem long but I like to be as detailed as possible. Take your time and follow directions.

First off make a backup of your ROM if you dont already have one. You can NEVER be to safe when messing with your phone. 9/10 you can fix your phone no matter the problem as long as you have backups.

Download this first

http://androidcommander.com/?file_id=13

-This tool will enable you to push and pull files from your phone to your computer very easily. Assuming you are rooted that is?

Download 7Zip

http://tinyurl.com/86tjl5u

-This is a normal zip program but works well with .apk files, android install files, to where you can add to and delete files without ever extracting anything.

Download your NEW images

http://tinyurl.com/7p8qgcg

-First thing you will want to do is install 7zip and Android Commander. Then extract the Images Zip. you should have 2 folders, Framework and systemui. The Framework-res folder contains your battery and other various icons. The systemUI contains the majority of the status bar icons and the status bar itself.

-Put your phone into USB debugging mode and internet connection under usb. Open Android Commander.

*You should see this. Notice is says "Root access OK" at the bottom? If it doesn't, you wont be able to install or "push" any files to your phone because you are "soft" rooted. If that's the case we will need to go another route, but continue all the steps below except for the "push" part obviously.

-On the right side is your phone files and on the left side is your computer files. Navigate to system/framework and COPY framework-res.apk. It should copy to C: as the default. Next navigate to system/apps and COPY systemUI.apk.

-Next go to C: on your computer, or where the "copies" were saved to. Make 2 NEW folders. One called "framework" and the other called "SystemUI" and paste the correct files in each. That way there is no confusion of where what goes.

-Let's start with the framework-re.apk first. Right Click on the .apk and click 7zip-open archive. You should see this.

-Double click "RES". highlight "drawables-hdpi" and extract it. Go to the folder you just extracted and open it up. You will see a bunch of png images in the folder.

-Open the folder you downloaded from ME, framework-res, and copy all of the actual Png images inside of it. Should be 223 images. Paste those images to your "drawables-hdpi" folder you just unzipped. It will ask you if you want to "Copy and replace". Click the box "do this for all" and click ok.

-Next. Copy the "framework-res.apk" file you pulled from your phone, should be in C:, and paste it on your desktop. This will be your "backup" in case anything goes wrong or if you want to revert back. I would suggest making a folder on your desktop entitled "backup" so you dont get confused which is which because it's very easy to get confused.

-Right click on the framework-res.apk located in C: and click 7zip-open archive. Double click "RES". highlight the "drawables-hdpi" folder and delete it. Drag the "drawbles-hdpi" folder you just copied all your new images to, over to the zip window. It will ask you if you want to add it or combine it, click yes. You should see the drawables-hdpi folder now within the zip window.

-That's it. This is your NEW framework-res.apk with the new images. Navigate, on Commander, to system/framework and drag your NEW framework-res.apk over to the window on the right. It will ask you where do you want to put it, click on RIGHT SIDE.

-Now do the EXACT same thing for SystemUI.apk located in the system/apps folder in Android commander. Follow the steps and copy and paste the images from the SystemUI folder you downloaded from me. Drag it over to commander and you will be done.

-Reboot your phone and everything SHOULD be working as normal. Congratulations. You just edited your own theme. Not so hard is it. Gets easier once you get the hang of it and see how everything works.

-IF YOUR PHONE DOESN'T BOOT UP. DONT PANIC.

Turn your phone off and open Android commander. Turn your phone on. Once it starts to boot up, it will show up on Android Commander. Go ahead and open it up in Android Commander.

Remember those BACKUPS you made? Framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk. Copy (Push) those backups over to their respected folders in commander (system/framework and system/apps) and your phone should continue to boot up as normal.

I doubt this will happen but sometimes it does. These folders are sensitive and if ONE thing is off it messes everything up and it wont act right.

If everything does work and you want to make some changes let me know.

Seriously? You didn't know you weren't going to be near a computer earlier? I just spent about 3 hours gathering all of that up and explaining it up to where you can understand.

Option B would have taken me about 10 minutes but I assumed you wanted to learn by going with the first option and Im all for helping someone if they want to learn. You burned that bridge my friend.

That really erks me. Sorry, your own your own now.

I didn't assume it would take that long for you to gather information. I thought you were going to tell me that I only had to replace a couple of files. You didn't have to put together all that information but it won't go to waste it's good for future references.

Dude it's all good. But yeah, just typing up a tut takes a lot of time. Making sure its correct and the actual typing itself. Then the time it takes to find the images, edit them, and then make zipped folders that can be downloaded. So yeah it takes a good bit of time. But I DONT mind doing it when someone wants to learn. Im always down to show anyone how to do something because I got so much help from people on here when I was trying to learn. I'm just paying it forward.

So when you said option A, that actually made me happy and WANT to do the tut because it told me YOU wanted to do it yourself instead of having someone do all the work for you.

But it is what it is, no hard feelings. I'm sure a lot of people will get some use out of it and hopefully you will get the chance to sit down and do it yourself and learn for yourself because it's fun and knowledge is always endless.

AWESOME write up, exactly what I was looking for! However... Android Commander isn't detecting my root access.

How can I get this working? And if I can't get it working.. can I install my new files by putting them on my SD card then installing with Root Explorer? Providing I have a backup of my current rom just in case...

If you dont want to mess with A/C just take a zip from anyones theme, delete all their apks put yours in and then flash it in recovery. Youre more then welcome to take one of my zips delete my apks out and replace with yours. And if you use Notepad ++ you can edit the updater script so it says whatever you want when flashing it.

Oh good idea! I am actually in the process of installing the battery + status bar and icons from the Gingerfusion theme to the Broken Out Rom I have installed... looks pretty sweet so far IMO. Only the battery installed right now. It keeps defaulting to the old icon though during charging when the icon changes to the plug. I guess a png was missing.. grrr

It's because you are not hard rooted. MOST kernels when flashed enable your phone as hard rooted but ive had trouble with a few before.

What I did a few times was flash a different kernel and/or take the build.prop out of a kernel you know that WILL work and 7zip it over to your current kernel that you want to keep that ISNT hard rooted.

I was never sure about doing that and I asked around and searched around and never came up with anything until I just tried it. It worked and no side effects thus far.

I flashed the blitzkrieg kernel after i installed the rom. Im able to do anything else requiring root. How much more rooted should i be? Lol. Weird. No big deal though, just would have been nice if it worked. I put the files on my sd instead and used root explorer.

Yeah there's a difference actually on the root. here you go.

My phone is rooted, but program runs without root access. Why?
There are two types of root:
  • Soft Root: gives you root access from the shell and phone applications.
  • Hard Root: gives you root access from the ADB and the shell.
You need this second.
How to get ADB root access?
You have two ways:
  • Flash any custom ROM, they are modified to work with root access.
  • Edit your boot image.
    • Pull out your boot.img.
    • Unpack.
    • Edit default.prop file, set value „ro.debuggable” to „1″.
    • Re-Pack.
    • Flash.

I wanna say I pulled the boot.img out of the plague kernel and just replaced it with 7zip. Real easy. Did that and opened it back up and root access was confirmed.

Or you can just extract it from the plague kernel. Put it on your sd card. Navigate with root explorer. Copy your old one and make a backup. And paste the new one. That way works also.

Yeah I think you could. Since the signal generall looks like this IIII full III, II or I. There's a PNG for each one of those so you would basically take a bar away for each PNG and leave them all there for "full" service. Make sense?

Once you open up the apk and look at the service png's you'll see what you will have to do. Whether it works or not IDK. Your android will have to be the same size as the originals and you might have to make the bars thinner so they show up better. It might work
