Default {MOD} Settings.apk 'TOOLS' section 9/21/12

A small MOD inspired by Fuzzy13. The MOD consists of:

Quote:
- The addition of the Flash LED found inside the LG hidden menu to the Settings.apk in order to use it as a flashlight.

- A shortcut to the Metropcs hidden menu section that allows you to disable/enable data

- A shortcut to Rom Manager (provided you have installed at least the free version, otherwise this option within the Settings will be of no use to you)

Quote:
More Options/Tools/Shortcuts are to be added (need your suggestions). Keep in mind that in order for this shortcuts to be implemented they need to be kind of for everyone to use since I won't be able to keep up with any personalized requests.

Quote:
Suggestion List:

-GPS Toggle suggested by Anniedroid
-Terminal Emulator suggested by ldrifta
-Advanced Bluetooth Settings suggested by Me
-DSP Manager/Equalizer?* suggested by Me

Red=not done
Orange=working on it
Green=done

Quote:
Download the Original Settings.apk (Flashlight, Data toggle, and Rom Manager) HERE

-Original + Advanced Bluetooth Settings HERE

Instructions:

-If downloading to a PC,
plug your phone to your computer>internet mode>open Android Commander (or push any other way you know how)>place inside /system/app>No reboot needed.

-If downloading to your phone,
using your favorite File manager (with root access) move the Settings.apk inside /system/app>Reboot.

Thanks to Fuzzy13 for the inspiration (show some appreciation by thanking him) and thanks to anyone else that enjoys my MODs or uses them as bases for their own "experiments"

Not really necessary but still pretty cool. If you could add the animation/picture that pops up when you continually tap on "Android Version".

Thats from a different phone, isnt it. that activity would be hard to implement (by me) as i only managed to link settings.apk to other apks

how would this fit in the >>Tools<< section?

How about linking it up to ROM toolbox? That's beneficial tool as it's an AIO.

True, but why go through 3 touches (menu, settings, romtoolbox) when you can access it by simply touching it once (assuming its on your desktop)

The same goes for ROM manager, but it somehow worked its way into the settings (blame fuzzy).

By allowing it to stay there is my way of paying tribute to our fuzzter

Linking it to ROM toolbox is touchy. I originally had it linked but you can only link it to either the free or paid version. You can't link the free, buy the paid, and it automatically change. The links are different. Which is why i chose ROM manager. Most Everyone uses it and it's free.

The first test run i did of this new style of settings was a Jelly bean type. It had an accounts section that the accounts on the phone; Facebook, Google, Twitter, etc..and a spot for "Add Account" which this thus eliminated the the tab we already have for accounts.

I didn't like it, found it pointless so I started over.

Because it has to be flashed. Some system apps cant be installed by simply placing them in the apps folder and rebooting.

My advice? Just reinstall your ROM.

What do you mean? Just flash your ROM. You don't lose anything. Just don't wipe data.

With ShinySide's DIYS System App Flash Package!! All it is, is a zip folder with 2 folders inside. Meta and system. Dont touch the META. Open the system and youll see a folder called app. Open the app folder and paste whatever system app you want into it. And then put it on your sd card and just flash!

Cause I've never got it to work like that.

Makes no sense but it's never worked for me.

What system files/apps does it work with? Anything?
i.e. - including ringtones, wallpapers, etc?

It can. If you want to just install system apps put them in the app folder inside the zip. Ringtones? Just make a new folder in the system folder of the zip called media and inside that one make one called ringtones and put your ringtones in the ringtones folder. Want to throw in a bootanimation too? just put it in the media folder.

Install jar or framework? Just make a folder in the system folder named framework and put the jar and framework/res-cap/etc in there.

Fonts? Same deal make a folder called fonts inside the system folder

have you ever used UOT kitchen? on the zip they give you you should be able to add the lghiddnemenu.apk inside the app folder (where system.apk) is and flash it. that might work
You could link the one inside rt but then you gotta choose free version or paid version. Or make two links, one for each. But that is sloppy.

perhaps just a small terminal emulator may be a better idea from what you're saying.

would any one help trying to find out how to install or flash an app into your system/app that does not show on the app drawer, like the screenshot app that allows us to use the power menu screenshot option? I cant seem to find a proper way to google it. i kinda know the app has to be decompile and some stuff needs to be removed then recompile but dont know the details. And im not talking about hiding the app, but removing the ability of being accessed unless it is called by something, do i make sense?

Funny you say that, i tried everything in my power to install an app without an icon. One way or another i would error out.

I wish you luck on that one. If you try it yourself I'll go ahead and tell you that any of the obvious options to do it don't work.

HERE is the Settings.apk for ldrifta with the flashlight only located under 'System'.

It has not been tested because I decompiled it from work using 'Logmein'. Give it a try and tell me what you think. and for the curious ones, yes, i leave my laptop on 24/7 .....

because I play runescape

Which ROM/Roms does this work with? I'm on #2 v2.1, but it doesn't seem to work.

How are you installing it? Works with any ROM/firmware. Prolly not installing it correctly.

Make sure system/app is Read/Write and then paste the apk. Reboot. Works every time.

Okay, solved it. I had backed up the orginal settings.apk, as settings1.apk. For some reason, I had to remove that from the phone before it the mod took over. Thanks for help.
