Ok, so i have a serve case of adhd. and i do not want to BRICK my phone. I met a guy at my store who had a rooted cyanogenmod 6. ON his EVO. So now I want it. So I found a guy to do if for 20. Says he can't go lower in price because he uses a program that he pays a membership for. Is this legit or not? Thanks

Defiantly a scam... There is absolutely no program that requires a membership to root your phone. If you follow Matlocks http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies-extras.html he breaks it all down for you. Its so easy a caveman can do it! Trust me save your money read up a little bit and do it your self. It wil also provide with some valuable information that will benefit you if you ever have any problems. Remember there are always tons of people here willing to help as well!!
A program to root that requires membership? BS. There's plenty of resources online to do it yourself like the tutorial linked above. If you do decide to do it yourself my advice is don't rush it.

Wow, a membership? for ROOTING? He must be one of those special inductees that was admitted into the elite club of "The Internet". I'll do it for ya' for $19 j/k I'm not in ATL, but if i was i'd do it for free right in front of that guy, takes like 10 min and you basically click "next next finish".

If you have any problems while Rooting, or need anything before or after. Hit me up and I'll help you with whatever you need.
I really think the idea of paying someone to root your phone is a really really bad idea . For starters it costs nothing for the program used to root the EVO . Also without you understanding the root process or how the software is loaded and swapped around . If something happens to your phone and you need to bring it in for a insurance claim you have no knowledge on how to revert the phone back to original condition providing the issue you are having Sprint might say you have a rooted phone and refuse replacement . You should spend some quality time reading and understanding how this is all done and how to properly back up your phone as well as restore it . Also in the long run it will be more rewarding to yourself since you did the root and software changes yourself . Just my two cents
I am totally NOT a techie, but after spending a few hours reading through everything I could find, especially the ROOTING FOR DUMMIES + EXTRAS, I was able to root my phone, quickly and painlessly using Unrevoked. It was so easy, I wish I had done it when I bought the phone in August. At the moment I'm flashing Cyanogen Mod and it appears to be going smoothly. If you just read up on it, you can totally do it yourself!
Yeah, these are all good points. You need to know how to do it yourself, just in case you need to unroot for taking it in.
Ive rooted a couple of friends evos, all they wanted was wireless tethering, so i hooked them up and made a backup and showed them a few basics..
If they ever have any problems i just told them to let me know so i can un do it for them.
But yeah, dont pay lol

it is really not that hard. please just read the ROOTING For Dummies Guide.....the Gingerbread Edition. and try it yourself. plus you have this great forum here it help you if need be. when you are rooted it is a good idea to know what you are doing to your phone. if you do not learn now then there is a higher risk of you bricking your phone. but like i said there are ton of members here that are more then willing to help you out if you. first step is to read, read again, then read some more. read the guide fully and then if you have questions please feel free ask here.

but my statement still applies. rooting your phone does take some know how. please do the research to root your phone. rooting it yourself will give you knowledge that will help you out when you run into issues or problems. having someone else do it for you will just open up more issues for you and you could end up bricking your phone, if you do not know what you are doing.

It's your phone in the end you will do what you want to do. However Ocn makes a strong argument right here. You should know how to access the area's of the phone that make rooting the joy of rooting. Our Rooting For Dummies Gingerbread edition will give you the straight forward way to do things. It is not tasking or time consuming. Besides No Other forum in the world will support you like this on.
I think, if you really aren't comfortable doing it yourself, you should find someone who knows how to do it and will meet you and walk you through the process. If you watched someone go from stock phone to rooted with custom rom/kernel/scripts etc, you will have the confidence to do it all yourself.... over, and over, and over, and over again
I think that most people who have successfully rooted, and have thus become flash-a-holics, would be more than willing to help you in person, for free (provided location and schedules permit). I don't see anyone here wanting money to help you, and we're all here for every step of the process!
Have a little faith in yourself!

There are risks to rooting and idk about you but i found it kinda complicated and didn't want to risk messing up my phone, but i wanted to get better battery life, delete all the bloatware and really customize my phone. if you choice to root and mess it up your phone can be bricked aka a paperweight because thats all it will be good for. like i said though the positive is extended battery life, complete control over your phone, remove all the bloatware apps, customize your interface, get free wifi tethering, etc...
so i went looking for a someone to do it... however that being said i didn't want to send my phone to a random person on craigslist. i finally found a company that roots phones very cheaply. Their website is www.rootwizards.com i filled out the form and they contacted me right away. They guaranteed the root so there was no risk. here is there contact info (848) 228-3595 email rootwizards@gmail.com
if you are unwilling to do the work into studying the process on how to root your phone or scared to do the process your self then maybe you should not root your phone. there are things that you can learn by rooting the phone yourself that might save you in the future. rooting and flashing roms takes a bit of know how. and without knowing what you are doing, you will increase the chance of messing up somewhere and then really bricking your phone. rooting is not for everyone.
rooting with revolutionary is actually really easy to do. however, rooting the newer hboot takes a little bit extra in that the process is more complicated. but that is not to say that it will be more difficult. it is just more involved.but to each there own i guess.
for anybody who decides to try this out, just make sure that you do the research and learn what process they did to get you rooted and also how to unroot your phone if you need to.
I agree with OCN, if you don't teach yourself the simple process of rooting your phone, then you probably shouldn't bother with rooting it in the first place. It seems really intimidating at first because there is a LOT to learn. But after you get familiar with the terminology and some fairly simple concepts, it's not very hard to grasp.

I agree with Mizzou and Ocn if you are incapable of rooting the phone yourself save your money and just live with what you have. You will be helpless if something happens.

I'm in the south Atlanta area as well. If you flashed a CM rom, the android market won't show up unless you also flashed the google apps zip along with the CM rom.
I got my evo the day it came out and rooted about a month later. It was much more challenging then and I was scared to death of bricking my phone. I read and re-read multiple posts on numerous forums before I did anything. I feel like asking someone else to root your phone is a waste, most if the skills needed to root are the same ones needed to flash roms, make hand backups, and deal with the little issues that arise as part of having a rooted phone. I know that it is scary, I'm really not that computer literate, but just go slowly and READ. Once you've read the rooting guide and think you understand it, read it again. If you have trouble post here and someone will help you, its actually harder than you think to fully brick your phone.
As far as the rootwizards.com thing goes, I think they are a bit of a rip off. Charging $25 for a root is bad enough, but then asking for $10 more for a rom(I assume they leave you with the stock one if you don't get this "package") and another $10 on top of that for wifi tether(a free app that is included in most roms???)c'mon...I'm in favor of business and think everybody should be able to make a buck however they can, but this is just exploitation of a person's ignorance.
