Hi...

So I've read the suggestions/recommendations/warning regarding removing the Sprint crAPPs vs. freezing them. Problem with me regarding freezing is that I'm looking to get some more MEMORY and I'm kinda sorta leaning toward deleted some of them.

Now I'm a little new to all the Titanium functions so here are my questions...

QUESTION: I have run Titanium backup and have ALL my apps backed up. If I then delete one or more Sprint crAPPs can I select to REINSTALL the Sprint Apps using Titanium at a later date. I have noticed that a "regular" app that I have uninstalled is available for reinstallation using Titanium...does this work for the Sprint apps as well?? Or are there problems with installed a Sprint app by itself.

ANOTHER question:

If the Sprint apps can be deleted and reinstalled as I am asking above, does reinstallation of the Sprint apps allow you to obtain an OTA update of the OS?? Or, once I'm rooted I should NOT attempt an OTA update in the future?? Or once I'm rooted AND REMOVE the Sprint crAPPs I simply CANNOT update my phone OTA??

1) Some of them might need to be pushed to /system/app, but otherwise, you shouldn't have any problems reinstalling them. Really, the safest thing to do is freeze them, but if you're going to remove, them do *not* just delete them. I know you have a titanium backup, but it's a better idea to move apps somewhere else than it is to delete them and rely on titanium backup. Really, you're not going to save *that* much space by removing them. You'll still get the benefit of some freed up RAM by freezing them. Really, your best bet is to make a nandroid backup and flash a custom rom with the bloatware already removed.

2) Sprint apps and OTAs don't really have that much to do with each other (well, I've heard of some things getting screwed up when it can't find certain packages, but...). The fact of the matter is that you should never accept an OTA once you're rooted. Period. You *can* unroot, accept the OTA, and hope that OTA is rootable, but nobody who knows what they're talking about will recommend that. What you need to do is wait for a rooted flashable stock OTA, and flash it. Trust me, you'll never be out of the loop, but never attempt to install a OTA while rooted.

Now this makes sense...didn't think about this option. Can you elaborate on HOW to go about moving the apps?? I'd be able to free up space for new apps but won't have them deleted (and won't need to 100% rely up a Titanium backup reinstallation).

I'm familiar with moving stuff around via the Astro app but I ASSume that there is more to it with moving the apps. How do I go about finding the Sprint apk files and moving them??

The basics:

1) Make a nandroid backup
1) Make a nandroid backup
1) Make a nandroid backup



2) Install root explorer from the market
3) Launch root explorer and grant su permissions
4) Go to /system/app and mount as rw
5) You could just remove the apks you don't want, but I recommend copying them to the sd card before removal just in case you remove something you shouldn't have. Read that thread for information on what you can and cannot safely remove. As a general rule, if you don't know what it is or you don't know if it can be safely removed, don't remove it. Stuff like weather and friendstream, I believe are integrated into the system to the point where removing the apks will cause problems. If you want to reinstall anything you've removed, just copy the apks back to /system/app with root explorer. Don't try to sideload them like you would a normal app.

I still recommend you freeze them with Titanium backup or just flash a custom rom, instead. But if you want to remove bloatware yourself, this is basically how you do it. Just remember - backup, backup, backup, read, read, read. Root + Root explorer with no backup is a good way to mess stuff up badly.

I juuuust found this link above and was reading it before you replied! I will look into the moving of the apps...will AT THE VERY LEAST keep a copy of the apk SOMEWHERE to free up some memory for new apps.

And to ask once more/clarify...to reinstall the moved/deleted apps, I simply use the apk file to install JUST LIKE I would use any non-Sprint apk file on my phone, yes??

No, you should copy them back to /system/app where you got them from. You might be able to install some stuff normally, as I seem to remember installing sprint tv that way. Just make it easy on yourself. If you copied it from /system/app, put it back in /system/app if you want it back.

I did this before freezing or anything like an idiot. Got excited about my root and to get all that crap off there so I just uninstalled it with Titanium. When I did this it didn't open up any extra space on the internal storage. Any help or direction on what's going on here, or how I could reload them and then do it correctly.

Did you reboot to check the storage? I have checked after "Removing" a bunch off apps and saw the same thing. However after a reboot the storage space was more.

Do freeze always before removal though just incase there are issues. You can hopefully defrost the app and get out of fc hell. However before you decide to do any of it do a Nandroid.
