Default Can't Flash - "assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img","boot")" error

So I need help. I tried to flash another ROM using Amon RA earlier, and the installation was aborted due to the following:

assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img","boot")

I've since tried to restore the NAND backup I made using Amon RA, but the phone is stuck on the white screen.

I made a backup of the stock ROM using ClockworkMod before switching to Amon RA, but don't know how to get back to ClockworkMod to flash it.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how to conquer either of these errors and get my phone running, I would be most grateful. Thanks!

Go here:

[ROM] 12/31/10 | SPRINT LOVERS | 2.2 | 3.70.651.1 | Radio/Wimax/PRI All-In-One - xda-developers

Download the PC36IMG.zip file and put it in the root folder of your SD card. Then go into your boot loader and load it from there. The thread has all the directions. This is what saved me the other day.

howlong are you waiting? the white screen is normal. let it do its thing. a lot of the new roms are huge and they need time to install properly. one time i waited for the synergy-kingdom rom for almost 35-40 mins! just be patient. as long as your are wiping data, dalvik cache and cache before you flash a rom you are good to go.

have you tried a nandroid backup?

the rom never installed... the installation was aborted and it gave me the boot error. at that point i tried to wipe the phone and bring it back to factory settings and it would hang on the white screen... i waited 1 hour and took the battery out... this is the one time i did not make a nandroid backup and i had this problem... i tried putting the PCIMG36.zip back onto the sd card and update it in the boot loader and when prompted to reboot the phone it would hang on the white screen... i waited an hour also and had to take the battery out. i think i may of bricked the phone...

ok so you have amon ra2.3(i'm assuming it is the latest version) which is a great recovery.
1. so in recovery wipe data, dalvik cache, and cache do that 3x.

2. also try thisvr superwipe. this will also wipe temp files, data, system, boot. just flash it like you would a rom.

3. after flashing that then flash you rom again.

and get in the habit of always making a nandroid backup before flashing anything. you never know when things could go wrong.

have you tried and re-download the file? sometimes you get a bad download.

edit: you might want to also upgrade your amon ra 1.8 to 2.3. it is just a suggestion. not necessary though.

well if you like sense 3.0 then:
try mikg 3d alpha (not a final yet):theMikMik.com • View topic - Mik3D - A1 - [7/30/2011]. you might need to register if you are not already, but it is free to do.

also synergy-kingdom nightlies 7/22 is pretty good.║▌ ║▌││░ | ROM | Synergy-Kingdom | NIGHTLYS | 2.3.3 | SENSE 3.0 |░ █║▌ ║ - xda-developers

or try sacs kingdom v9 [ROM] SACS Kingdom v9-Updated [7.18.11] Everything...Perfect! - xda-developers

these roms are pretty big so you might want to think about partitioning your card. use this guide:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158993

ok try doing an actual full wipe so data, dalvik cache, and cache as well as system, then flash the superwipe, then try and flash the rom.and are you getting the message in recovery? are you trying to flash the PC36IMG file? because that is done in hboot and not in recovery.

and on a side not for xda you should re-post the question in the EVO Q&A- xda developers. you will get more hits there as well. but i'm glad you came here.

no ive loaded the pc36img.zip to reflash the amon recovery through booloader. then took it out of root to load the pc36img.zip for the sprint lover rom through bootloader. when it goes through the update it says : boot -pu fail then it says partition fail underneath that. so i take the file out of root, always do the full wipe/sys/cache/dalvich cache, then superwipe. then i try loading any other sense rom and nothing works. only cm7 is working on my htc evo. its hardware 003 and its running hboot 2.10.0001. its weird that im only allowed to flash cm7 through recovery using amon 2.3

if i try to flash a sense rom i get the assert fail status 7 issue. intall aborted

thanks for the xda tip, i posted it there. this is so weird, maybe the recovery isnt reading the partitions correctly?

which sprint lovers rom have you tried?

i'm thinking that it might be because of your updated radio and older hboot is making things weird. i could be wrong. it is just a thought at the moment.

im using the 2.3.3. found on this page: [ROM] 08/03/11 | SPRINT LOVERS | 2.3.3 | 4.24.651.1 | Radio/Wimax/PRI All-In-One - xda-developers

i tried flashing the stand alone, that didnt work

then i tried doing the pc36img.zip update through bootloader like the previous posts said. that gave me the boot-pu-fail.

i guess i'll try the superson recovery found here in case its the recover problem?

i guess i'll try the superson recovery found here in case its the recover problem?

Amon Ra Style Recovery for Supersonic - xda-developers
you can try it, but i doubt that it is a recovery issue. i have as of yet hear anything that was caused by amon ra. but that is up to you. i have not tried that recovery yet.

well i would not mess with hboots just yet. if anything i was thinking that flashing ruu that matches your hboot to really get you back to stock might be an option we can try. however, this will give you a stock rom and stock recovery. you will have s-off. all you will need to do is install a new recovery and then try and see if you can flash a rom.

here is the ruu you can try:
Download PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2 _.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.zip for free on Filesonic.com

if you want to run it on your computer then try this:
Download RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15. 00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe for free on Filesonic.com

yes it will downgrade your radios. it will return your evo back to stock with root access to what your hboot is. if you want you can try the latest ruu, but that will update your radios and your hboot to 2.16 which is also not downgradable.

thats fine, if/when it gets back to up and running on the stock, i will upgrade the radios. if it doesnt work, im assuming the nandroids wont work because they'll be with an upgraded radio. its not a big deal to reflash cm7

no your nandroid backups will be fine. they are one of the few things that will never get backed up.

eh...just gave me the same errors when i tried to update it in bootloader. it went through the updates and when it got to the boot update it said : boot fail-pu

then it said partition fail or something annd it said update failed. i rebooted, and of course stuck on white screen...

i think i'll put amon back on and do a nandroid of my cm7.

should i try the latest ruu?

actually that might be a better option as you have the newer radios.

ok so this could be from your sd card. have you run a check on it to make sure its clean? a partition fail is not a good thing. You cannot wipe it away.
