Glad you got it working . For the record, when you get stuck, and need to do a battery pull, you only need to wait a few seconds between when it shuts off and when you turn it back on while pressing volume down. You don't need to wait 10 minutes .

problem was that u were pressing volume buttom UP with the lock button, which puts the phone into a diagnostics mode and doesnt do anything (learned that like 2 days ago =p, forgot from who, but thx who ever that was lol.)

the right was is to press lock button + volume button DOWN to put it into recovery mode

What exactly were you doing? Are you not able to boot up normally either? I take it you have S-OFF and have been to recovery before? At the moment, you don't have a recovery image. There are a number of ways that can happen. As long as you have S-OFF, you can flash a recovery image from hboot with a PC36IMG.zip. You can get the recovery of your choice from the link in my sig. Just follow the instructions in that thread. What recovery did you have before? If you're unable to boot up, we'll need a little more information once you have recovery so that you can get everything working again.

really new to this, wanted to root my phone so i went with the basically one click unrevoked3. it will not boot up normally, it just stays at the white htc evo screen. i have tried PC36IMG.zip but the radio_v2 one failed so the update was not installed. not sure which radio version i have and not sure how to check seeing as how phone wont get past the boot screen.. but i will definitelyfollow your advice and see what i can come up with.

ok so i just flashed a new ROM (Koni Elite III) and so far its gotten past the boot menu. should be good, hopefully...

Okay, let's start with this:

1) What version of unrevoked did you use?
2) Turn the phone off, then turn it back on while pressing and holding volume down. That will take you to hboot. What is your hboot version? (e.g. 0.97, 2.02, 2.10, etc.)
3) Do you have S-ON or S-OFF?
4) What is your baseband radio version? It will say in hboot.

Considering you're at this point, you probably never got a custom recovery to begin with, but that doesn't mean you don't have S-OFF. As long as you can get to hboot (which I'm sure you can) you'll be fine.

Okay, need some help. here is the background on my problem. I just bought this phone like this. I can boot into HBOOT but can go no where else. It sticks on the white boot screen. I have no idea what they used to root this phone. Here is the information that you requested from the other guy:

1. no idea what they used to root with
2. HBOOT: 0.93.0000
3. SHIP S-OFF
4. 2.15.00.07.28
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac
Jul 23 2010, 16:41:47

Also says no image or wrong image. I downloaded Recovery 3.70 from your media fire but I think that might have been the wrong one. Any advise? I would appreciate the input!!

May I also add that when I try and boot into recovery from HBOOT it will not do it and it vibrates 5 times and does nothing.

ok so first lets get you into recovery.
1. download amon ra 2.3 (the preferred recovery) from here: Clockwork/Amon RA PC36IMG Files.
2. erase the "_ra2.3_" part of the name so that it is named PC36IMG. if you are using windows (it hides extensions) make sure not to add ".zip" to the name or it will look like PC36IMG.zip.zip.
3. xfer the file over to the root (no folder) of your sd card. this is the difficult part because you cannot connect your phone to the computer. if you have a card reader, you can transfer the file over that way.
4.go into hboot and it should automatically scan for the file and then press vol up to update.

now you should have a custom recovery and from there you have access to your sd card and you can just dowload a custom rom, xfer to your card and flash it from recovery.

That doesn't work. I then select update and then reboot and then it shuts off, reboots to the white screen and then goes black and vibrates 5 times while still pitch black. I'm about to pull my hair out.

I took the original file name and just deleted the _ra2.3_ and it was PC36IMG.zip. I am uploading a video to show. The video shows a reboot but after i run the PC36IMG.zip if i go to update and then choose no to reboot and then to go recovery it does the same thing. Video will be done in a minute.

no worries. i understand the frustration. ok you may now have a recovery from the looks of things. try going back to hboot and select recovery. it should bring you to the white htc splash screen. it may take a few seconds to a few minutes.

When I go into recovery it goes to the white splash screen, then it goes to a black screen and vibrates 5 times and does nothing. It's like it shuts off.

are you using the same file each time? have you tried to re-download and try again? it is weird that it is doing that.

I have downloaded several times. I've downloaded different versions, I've renamed it with caps and without. I have no idea.

The green LED indicator light is also blinking

well the problem with unrooting is that you have to flash the s-on tool and that requires that you have a custom recovery. are you using a mac or pc?

ok that might have been the issue. not sure (i don't too much about macs) but i believe that it might be unzipping the file. hopefully the pc will work. just remember that windows hides extensions.

You can try and unroot the phone by running the RUU for your hboot(or the one for the current radio version if newer). It will NOT turn s-off to s-on but it might restore you to a stock unrooted rom and stock recovery and we can fix it from there.

Follow the directions in the Rooting guide for unrooting except you won't be able to flash the s-on tool which is no big deal at this point as we want to get you to a running phone.

Downloaded and it is in the flash process but it is frozen on #4 Radio_V2. Do I need to pull the battery? It has been frozen for 10 minutes with no progress.

Also, it says can not roll back hboot version. I tried to flash a stock radio and now I am on HBOOT: 2.02.0000. Does that make a difference with the file you posted?

Sorry

HBOOT: 2.02.0000
Radio 2.15.00.09.01

From the root thread I downloaded the correct recovery and now it gets stuck once again on the radio V2.

I feel like I am making progress but then getting shot down again.

just a thought not sure if this will work, but let's try the all in one update that sprint lovers rom has. here is the link [ROM] 01/26/11 | SPRINT LOVERS | 2.2 | 3.70.651.1 | Radio/Wimax/PRI All-In-One - xda-developers
it will change your radios, nvi, pri, and software so that you will be current. it also will give you a stock but custom rom. you still will not have recovery, but hopefully you will at least have your phone back.

unfortunately, i have to someone to the airport. so i will be back later on tonight and check and see if that worked for you.

Okay, still stuck, still with the same info as is on this photo. I took this picture right before I tried to reboot after flashing the above zip.

my 4g evo got wet.
short time after the touch screen was not responsive. screen was flickering.
I pulled the battery out, waited and then put it back in.
it seemed fine then.
later after working out
I see that my phone is now at the white hboot screen
power button does not respond and neither to the volume buttons
I pull the battery out
I take my sd card out and put the battery back in
I push the power button and it turns on
back to the hbt screen
no response after that
I take battery out and put the sd card in and then put the battery in
I hit the power button and my phone seems normal again
3 hours later the phone vibrates and shows ringtone vibrate.
and I am back at the hboot screen
I repeated my steps to get my phone working properly but it doesn't
i'm stuck on the hboot screen
I don't even get the parsings message
it wants me to select
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAN STORAGE
SIMLOCK
HBOOT USB
I press the power button - nothing happens
I try the volume up and volume down button - nothing happens

is there anything I can do?

Hello and welcome IKONofDC!!

Hmm, wet phone eh?
Is your phone rooted?
I'm not sure if anything can be done at this point as your buttons ceased to function and it just boots into the bootloader screen.

I think the water done did its damage.....but without the buttons functioning, I'm sorry but it may be time to lay it to rest

Edit: thinking some more here....you could try to take out the battery/sd card and put it in a bag of uncooked rice for a few days....that may get some of the residual water out....perhaps some life may come back into it

I've trying the rice idea before and had both good and bad success. I'd give it a shot....you have nothing to lose

Good Luck!!

was it water? if so you should be fine with the rice trick.....if the keys are not responsive then there is not much else you can do.
