but in the bootloader it's still S-On and i didn't get any permission for root user. Anyone can help me pls

I really do not want to do that because it is such a pain in the arse to get anything done with the communication gap here. Additionally, these companies work slow as heck, and they would probably keep my phone for like a week just to discuss it with each other first.... I hope that someone has a better way for me to handle this problem.
I went to AU shop with the same problem with u .
My Hboot is 6.17.0001 S-ON can not root with revolutionary. They took my phone for a week then they said that i did something to change the code so it cant be repair.
thanks to this thread, ive rooted and installed CMG7. i had a slight problem in the beginning, though. after flashing, when it boots, i got stuck at the CMG blue loop screen did research and some evo4g users had this too. downloaded calkulin's format all, re-flashed CMG7, and got in.
thing is, i'm trying to send C-Mail, but it seems i CAN'T now. i only recently discovered that you can now text docomo or softbank phones from au, and it was working when i was on stock. do you guys have any information on this? i might need to go back to stock if i cant get this to work.
should i switch roms? or is this a problem with the carrier (au-kddi)? or am i missing something entirely? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
EDIT:
looks like this thread's been busy. didn't get to read it entirely, and now that i have, it seems that a lot of people are having issues with custom roms and getting local services to work here in japan. tch, looks like my C-Mail is f*cked not unless i go to back to stock.

Reason: read the thread
from CGM7, i couldn't send/receive sms/c-mail, couldn't download native android apps here in japan, market is set to US; could not download paid apps. google maps and navigation seems to work fine, but i needed sms/c-mail, so i downloaded the au-kddi nandroid files by xhausx and did a restore from there.
in the words of agent-tabasco, my evo was on 'semi-stock'. sms/cmail did not work at first, but i checked for OTA's, and it was indicated that a 'cmail update' was available, so i did it.
after reboot my phone was able to send sms/cmail, but the problem was, market was missing, entirely. as agent-tabasco has said, upon rooting, the hboot was changed, and the CID was changed to sprint's; and i think that's the reason why android market is not working for us anymore. i did some reading and apparently you can unroot, but it seems that the files that one uses for it is from sprint's, too... and would probably leave my phone's CID on sprint.
so i had to make a choice between 'semi'-market working and being able to send/receive sms/cmaill. i said f*ck it, and chose to just flash CGM7 again. thankfully, one important app that i needed, japan trains, was not a native japanese app, so i was able to download and run it regardless of the market.
rooting has always been a risk. as my cousin (who owns a docomo SGS2 and opted not to root) said, it might not be worth voiding the warranty if problems arise. i hope that a solution comes along, whether it be au japanese evos being able to unroot and go back to stock... or remain rooted with all the issues (cmail/sms, market, CID) resolved. but for now, i would not recommend rooting these blasted japanese evos on au-kddi.
i really hope some developer comes through for us.

uhh guys i got some news. im on stock au-kddi rom from xhausx and i ran the cmail client update OTA again. market just updated, native japanese paid apps can be downloaded and installed with updates, google apps just updated, i can send/receive c-mail/sms now. need to go out for a while, will post more details later.
UPDATE:
from cgm7 i went to recovery (amon), did a backup on my current rom, wiped using calkulin's format all, then did a nandroid restore (again) of xhausx's stock au-kddi rom. once rebooted, sms/cmail was not possible, although market was ok. i went to check OTA updates, and a download was available for cmail. ive read somewhere in the thread that you can't do OTA's in this phase, but i did it anyway. it downloaded, i installed it, an it went to recovery by itself. from recovery, the installation screen sort of hung; i chose restart, then the screen suddenly said "flashing zip file", a very tense moment, then restarted. i'm like, what have i done?
at any rate, upon booting a congratulations note saying i had upgraded was on the screen. i could then use sms/cmail to send/receive messages, gps/wimax/wifi was ok, market updated itself (it was a relief to see the prices on apps back to yen instead of dollars again), japanese keyboard is back, downloaded paid apps and installed some, google apps (maps, gmail, etc) auto updated too. i am on froyo 2.2.1, and everything seems back to normal.
checked software updates again, and the gingerbread OTA was available. i chose not to update, because it's the reason i rooted my phone in the first place i use yahoo messenger to chat with my wife and kids abroad; and updating caused the front cam not to work.
i also checked my CID, and it seems that it has reverted from sprint back to kddi; that's probably why i could use the local market again. as for the hboot, well...
hboot is unchanged, and i still have s-off, which is curious because i can't run root explorer on my current stock rom. at the moment, it's fine enough for me my phone is where i want it to be. i think
thanks to all the people in this thread for taking me on that wild ride xD and thanks to xhausx for making it possible to come back from it...sort of i really do hope someone finds a way to resolve the issues using custom roms; im sorta missing CGM7 already!
cheers!

I am running 7.0.3.1 supersonic. The flexibility outweighs some of the problems like cmail, but gmail works well enough. I recently had some problems with the market until I updated to 3.1.5. Endmondo and google navigation crash pretty regularly, but I think it is memory issue.
Looking for any updates on how well the latest stable release works on the ISW11HT.

Were you able to connect to KDDI's Wimax network?

Did you revert back to stock recovery or are you still running Anon?
Same problem here with accessing KDDI AU's Wimax network. My rooted jEVO keeps searching for a signal. Any solution to this? I really don't want to go back to stock. Ever since rooting, my phone runs faster, has a longer lasting battery life, and I can use apps not available to stock. For anyone who needs the Japanese keyboard, download GO keyboard and install from there. It's a much better keyboard than stock. Not much of a c-mail user, since everyone I know has email on their phones these days anyway. The Wimax is pretty much the only thing I'm really missing. Help?

You did Hboot 6.17.0001 S-On Version 2.2.1 to stockrom that can update with OTA yet ?? how do you that plss

If I recall correctly, I rooted it before they did the OTA update which changed the Hboot. Revolutionary worked on the previous Hboot 2.15.0001.
My problem now is getting the WiMAX to work. I ran that WiMAX key checker that Ocnbrze suggested, but I think that it only checks for the Sprint keys (which I now have, apparently). My network also says sprint (in settings) Wondering how to replace them with the KDDI AU keys... Can anyone give me a walkthrough on this? I think I can download the keys from the link Ocnbrze posted previously. Stuck at the next step. Also a little confused. Are the keys all the same or are they network specific? Or is it the radios that are all the same? And what's this 4G MAC address for?

I thought I had connected in the past to 4G after rooting. But normally I have kept it off because even on stock there were very limited wimax areas in downtown Tokyo. There seemed to be better cover in Kanazawa.
My wife is on a stock evo, so I can check side by side with her phone to see if 4G should be working.
Under Network status, it says KDDI AU. I'm not sure if I changed that in one of the CM setup screen settings though. My RSA keys are backed up, but I"m not sure how to tell if they are Sprint or KDDI keys. The checker says, "Your HTC EVO RSA key is present".
Sorry about the delayed response, I thought I had this thread set to send an email on updates.

After i stuck in Hboot 6.17 and cant update with OTA or root with Revolutionay. When I flash the stock rom it show that The Main version is older. So you have to downgrade it before flash the stock rom.
You have to install android sdk and Hex editor (and relative tools)
step1 download z4root install it and use temporary root it.
step2 we get temp root now. open a cmd and input adb shell
step3 input su root(it will change the icon).
step4 copy the mtd1 file to sdcard.
input cat /dev/mtd/mtd1 > /sdcard/misc.img
step5 move the misc.img to your pc and use some hex editor to edit it.
step6 goto 11 row, you will find current version number. (in my case is 4.24.651.1)
step7 change it to 1.0.000.1 save the file. (should backup the original one)
step8 copy the flash tool and misc.img back to sdcard(flash tool:http://www.android-hilfe.de/attachme...lash_image.zip).
step9 input cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
step10 input chmod 755 /data/flash_image

I not much familiar with hacking the phone but if you put # cat /proc/mtd
it will be like this
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00c00000 00040000 "wimax"
mtd1: 00100000 00040000 "misc"
mtd2: 00480000 00040000 "recovery"
mtd3: 00340000 00040000 "boot"
mtd4: 15e00000 00040000 "system"
mtd5: 0a000000 00040000 "cache"
mtd6: 1aa00000 00040000 "userdata"
I know that the phone has several devices which hold different parts of the filesystem some sprint htc
#cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00040000 00020000 "misc"
mtd1: 00500000 00020000 "recovery"
mtd2: 00280000 00020000 "boot"
mtd3: 04380000 00020000 "system"
mtd4: 04380000 00020000 "cache"
mtd5: 04ac0000 00020000 "userdata"
so i think that the location of mtd0 find of KDDI and sprint phone is different
if u do something with mtd0 in KDDI phone it will effect to WIMAX .. I guess that

Sorry, I'm a bit lost. Can someone please tell me step by step how to get my WiMAX to work again? I'm on CM7 rooted J-EVO. I used revolutionary to root. Still haven't found a solution to the WiMAX still scanning problem. I tried the key checker, apparently I still have them. I've got a feeling they're sprint keys though. Need to get back on KDDI AU WiMAX.

when you first rooted did you make a nandroid backup? did you have 4g working then?
Yes, but unfortunately I think that it's been overwritten since. I rooted months ago... Having trouble finding the nandroid backup from back then...
that is why i always have it in multiple places. i was thinking that if you had 4g working when you first rooted you can just flash back to that nandroid to get your wimax back.

dropbox my friend. or someplace on the cloud. as far as your issue now. do you have any nandroid that had a working 4g? i'm not quite sure with how the j-evo works.
Good link, see if you can post the Japanese wiki as well from that blog - it details all the steps a little bit better and has pictures to boot.
I like how they mention the advantages/disadvantages, especially when using Custom roms. Hopefully a custom rom specifically made from the Japanese Evo will be available

Unfortunately no... Just recently discovered the joys of Dropbox... As far as I know, 4G was working before I rooted it. As soon as I rooted it though, Sprint.

yeah i'm not sure. i know that revolutionary changes your hboot, but i do not think that it would change your radios to sprint though. i could be completely wrong on that, however. and i'm not sure if the wimax radios would be different or not.

Is it the radios that are give you network specific access, or is it the RSA keys? Maybe someone on here has the KDDI keys that they wouldn't mind sharing? Also, instructions on how to flash them?

Hmm, it doesn't seem like the Japanese are having the same problems after rooting...but I'll have to double-check.

A while back rooted using Unrevoked and flashed Cyanogen to my phone (forgetting to take a backup...)
Since I couldn't use Wimax on CM and I didn't have an original ROM to go back to, I used the ROM posted above by xhausx. I unzipped it, put it in the recovery folder, and recovered it on CWM.
I wanted to update the stock ROM to the newest version but every time I do it through the OTA screen, it will download the ROM with no problem but when the phone reboots, it gets past the Android by AU screen, trys to unpack the update, but fails. The image is a blue alien with an exclamation mark inside of a triangle.
Does anyone have an idea why I can't update through OTA?

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
most ota's will not update if you have a custom recovery. so if you have one then most likely you will not be able to update. plus ota's while you are rooted could also do weird things to your phone. it could unroot you. it could even brick your phone. it could give you s-on but with a custom recovery.so be careful with accepting ota's.
i know you have the japanese evo and it is very different from the evo. and unfortunately, there is not much development for stock roms out there. so it makes things difficult if you want to unroot or go back to the japanese version of a stock rom.
you can always flash a stock version for the US evo if you like.

I know it's dangerous to do so, but from seeing multiple accounts of people updating with no problem, I decided to go ahead and try myself. That's where the problem kicks in. My phone just doesn't want to flash the ROM like others. At this point, I am not in dire need of root or a custom ROM which is why I'd like to go ahead and update.
When the phone completes the download of the OTA, it reboots, shows the Android by AU bootscreen. After this, it shows an blue android alien unpacking the OTA file, but it fails halfway. I have to take the battery out to reboot.
It boots back into the same version of the stock ROM like the update never happened.
I am wondering how I could replace the custom recovery with a stock recovery and then try the OTA. The blue alien really catches my eye because it seems like it is the blue alien from the revolutionary CWM and not stock recovery.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
do you have usb debugging turned on? also make sure that any anti-virus on your computer is turned off.
Yes the drivers are installed. The phone is set to charge only. Ive tried it with fastboot on and off. Not sure what else to try.
