ok so looks like comm errors are happening. maybe try uninstalling anything that has to do with the phone. so no pda or htc sync or anything else you would use. maybe even dropbox if you have it.
I got to S-OFF and now I need an internet connection to flash ClockworkMod Recovery. Problem is my desktop does not have an internet connection currently. Is there anyway I could flash CWM onto my phone later?
Problem again. I got S-off, then I clicked bootloader but it automatically selected fastboot and asked if i wanted to install an update which i did. then I clicked on recovery and made my nandroid backup. Now i get stuck at the white htc Evo 4G loading screen.

how long are you waiting. first boot might take a bit. if anything pull the battery and go to recovery. select advanced and wipe dalvik cache and cache partitions and reboot.

Brand new to the android community (about 2 weeks) and have been foaming at the mouth to finally get this done. Just wanted to say thank you to the devs for taking time out to bring this to us and to ocnbrze for following them and keeping us all up to date.
Confirmed S-OFF on phone, steps up at the top of the post are incredibly easy to follow, so thank you for that as well!
If anyone can refer me to a good sticky or post where people go over the more stable ROMs (maybe something with sense 3.0 features??) I would really appreciate it!
Good luck everyone!
Welcome to the rooted world! I was also having doubts on which ROM to flash. I was told about MikG 2.4 Oh man you wont go back after putting this on your phone. One of the most stable ROMS out there right now!
EPIC WIN!!!!
Ocn, let me read up on the process, and I'll lend you a hand.
Just got the word literally 2 minutes ago, soooooo stoked! I remember how I felt once I got S-off. Congrats to everyone waiting, welcome to flashaholics anonymous!
Thanks for the help everyone i am in the middle of backing up my stuff know just wanna say take your time go through the instructions a few times read some comments and dont skip a step which was my problem i skipped the step with the htc drivers

Can someone please help me, I at the screen where that says Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4 when I select install zip from Sdcard it take me to a screen the says REVOLUTIONARY what do I do next?
Its on charge only which the video I found said to do.
Have you tried to completely delete all HTC drivers and HTC programs from your pc, then reinstall and delete HTC sync?
I'm just getting in on the action. It seems Ocn may need a hand.

Do you see a load bar at the bottom of the screen?
Are there any options on the screen?
You should see the contents of your SD card, and the file you are looking for will be at the bottom of the list.
Post back what you see.
the options that I have are reboot System now, apply update from sdcard, wipe data/factory rest, wipe cache partition, install zip from sdcard, backups and restore, mounts and storge, advanced, and power off.

ok lets try something easy reboot your computer and also your phone and start all over again. make sure that there is no issues with drivers when you connect your phone. if your computer is not communicating with your phone then we need to fix that first.

Did that too. My HTC says it fails when I first plug in my phone to the laptop. Everything else is fine.
OK, super noob here. First, I apologize for these question in advance. So, I have my EVO rooted (I think). Now what? How do you get to use the phone as a modem/hotspot. How do you delete crap programs (NASCAR, Amazon MP3 downloader, etc...), how do you install a new ROM, and why would you? Thanks in advance.

read the ROOTING For Dummies guide in the after rooting section. also if you have any more questions please create a new thread. lets keep this thread only for rooting gingerbread.
Few notes worth putting into your step by step as some people are a little skittish of doing things they're not explicitly told to do.
1.) Don't just download the HTC Drivers, download AND install them! If you don't, you may be getting the "Waiting on Device.... For 3 hours." issue.
2.) If you're getting the red triangle, FEAR NOT! You may not be able to verify s-off after running revolutionary (this happened to me). To fix: Pull battery, hold power+vol-d. Run revolutionary. It will recognize that you've already turned s-off and ask you if you want to download and install it's recovery image. Hit "y" and "enter" and let it do that, THEN continue with the guide.
