nope the reboot from stock recovery is fine. do the undo command and start over from step 5.

as long as daemon starts successfully you are good to go.
After step 9, at the end of the long message before the reboot, it says
rm failed for /data/data/recovery/log, Permission denied
link failed File exists
Now it is back to the triangle with ! inside.

well it needs to have enough room so that the stock recovery can write the log. i'm not sure how much room it takes though. it could be really small, but who knows.......its just a thought.

Ok. I will have to delete stuff later. If i do the undo step after rebooting the phone from the triangle screen, will it go back to normal so I can use my phone and do this again at a later time?

I have been trying the "recommended version" and I get to step 8 .type in fastboot oem get_identifier_token and it says <waiting for device>
its plugged in and usb debbuged and it doesnt recognize it ... ive waited for it to do somethinng..retried it several times... help
Welcome to AF!!!
You are on the HTC website in step 8 I believe?
Are you running that command from your "Android Folder"?
Are you getting any error messages or is it simply not doing anything?
i did the initial step to go hboot drive> fastboot> power off... however when i look in my settings the fastboot button is unchecked ...idk if that matters
wait no for that step it asked to open>run>cmd then the window pops up and i enter the codes> Prompt: cd c:\Android) then cd \Android the it goes into C:Android n i type fastoboot oem get_identifier_token
then it says waiting for device n does nothing
ok got it i was powering the phone off instead of staying in usbfast boot. I have sucessfully unlocked it . which one of the two recovery methods should i use? the flasher or the adb command?
I am ultimately going to flash from sprint to cricket, would appreciate any help you can give

You can use either one...I would suggest the adb method since you have the Android Folder set up already. Just extract the file needed and move it into the Android folder, then run your command

I haven't touched my DINC for nearly two years so things have changed a lot in the custom ROM world. And it's significantly more confusing since the directions are all for the Evo.
I've got hboot 2.15 and "successfully" flashed the Amon RA recovery through adb, but when I select "recovery" it just goes to the HTC Incredible splash page and hangs. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Hello and welcome to AF!!
This is the Evo4g forums and the files here are for the Evo 4g.
Be very careful what you flash/install on your device because roms/kernels/files etc made for one device may not/will not work on other devices

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!
and to piggyback what mikey has said, amon ra 2.3(at least the one in this guide) is made specifically for the evo 4g phone. it will not work on other phones.
in the root forum for the incredible there is a root guide sticky that has all of the links and info you need to get your phone rooted.

Hello! Thank you for posting this guide
I'm new to this whole rooting business, so I was wondering if the MikG rom is still your best recommendation (I noticed that the last update was in October of last year).
Welcome Contructive!
MikG is an awesome rom if you like the sense overlay (it is what the O.E. OS is based on)
Otherwise, in my opinion, Decks reloaded is a fantastic rom.
Have you checked out the LIST? {The List} Utilities/Apps/Roms/Kernels for the OG EVO
Lots of good info there

yep still is my recommendation as far as sense roms go. for aosp roms decks reloaded is also a really good rom.
Actually... I'm back already xD
I'm still on step 3 of the -recommended- method for rooting.
I downloaded the "Rom Manager" app to set up a recovery file, but it says it can't find the "Superuser" ...
Did I miss a step somewhere?
I don't remember ever downloading that.

where did you get to use rom manager? its not in this guide. DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER FOR ANYTHING!!!! use the methods found in the guide to get recovery.

to go to recovery power the phone off (make sure that you have fastboot unchecked, settings/power/uncheck fastboot) then in the bootloader select recovery. and how to make nandroid backups is listed in the guide under nandroid backup.
basically in amon ra select backup and restore. keep the first three checked and i would make one nandroid backup with wimax. wimax is your 4g. there is a small possibility of loosing 4g while flashing things....mainly radios. after the first nandroid backup i would keep that one safe on your pc just in case and after that you do not need to keep backing wimax.
i would unistall rom manager....it is a worthless app as you should do most things in recovery.
now do you have recovery?

I'm sure this will make me sound even newbier than before, but... which file is the 'rom' file that I'm supposed to select?
I couldn't find the superwipe file either, lol...
I see the folders (from the zip files) that I moved onto my SD card though. They are:
data, Meta-inf, and system.

We're sorry, but it appears your attempt to unlock the bootloader on this device has failed. This could be caused by several factors including simple errors in the entry of the unlock token, problems with your device, or a lack of manufacturer support for the unlocking process. Please see the specific error code listed below, and try again if necessary.
Error Code: Invalid Bootloader Token Length.
Error Reason: The submitted Token appears to be the wrong length and won't work.
I received this error when i submitted my ID token I am just doing an htc dev
