Best way is to go to menu / settings / about phone / battery and then click on the small graph at the top, you'll see bars at the bottom. If you have places where the screen is of but the phone is awake, there's a wake lock.
If you have a solid bar of awake time when you werent using the phone you def have a wake lock. Little spots of awake here and there are fine. Its the giant solid bar thats a problem.

I had this issue where my charge would stop at 70% and i would just unplug the charger for a few seconds then plug it back in and it would continue charging. If i left it charged overnight and it froze, i would unplug and plug it in and within a few minutes it read 100%. Could be a calibration issue?

Yeah, I've been having issues with my phone charging too. My charging port recently started having issues, it *will* charge but I have to wrap the cord around my phone and not move it. I do have an external charger too, but it seems like I may have a bad battery connection to the phone or something. Because I can have my phone charging all night or the battery in the external charger (I have a seidio 3500mah battery, 2 of them actually) And when I leave for work at 2pm, by 11pm my phone is at 10% and I have no wake locks.
looks like Plume, Swype, and Maps are giving me fairly solid bars across the board...calander gave me a shorter but prolonged solid bar, market and email seemd to be on when last charging too...???
there was also something i noticed in the battery graphs....
com.android.server$screen_frozen and
com.android.server$keep_screen_on_flag
seems suspicius, but no solid bars next to them...
wish i could send you a screen shoot of this so someone could interpret...

Try re-calibrating the battery, It sounds like your phone is just showing the wrong readings. You can use the battery calibration app on the market or just manully do it yourself in recovery. Calibrate your phone when the battery reads 100%
Sent my phone to bed last night with a 35% or so charge...plugged into my usb2 as per usal of my laptop...
Woke to find only up to 75% charge....
this had happened a few days ago, andi found the screen "frozen", so then i had rebooted, and the phone was actually fully charged and all was fine...
this time, no screen freeze, but i rebooted right away anyway...still at 75%...
any thoughts?
if a "wake lock" could someone review with me the process of determinging so...
kernel and rom info in my signature...
Unfortunately, since you are using miui and builds are put out once a week, this specific build could have a wake lock issue. Maybe try a different build and see if the problem persists

even if it happens only once in a while?
will try to recal first tonight or tomorrow and see what happens
some said one of the newer builds is proving to be pretty stable on the EVO so i may need to give it a try, the latest as of two weeks ago, was not, as it had phone FC issues, and everyone was saying that the build i have now is the most EVO-stable
From what I gathered when I was looking into trying MUIU (couple weeks ago) was that the developer who was responsible for porting changes to the EVO has all of a sudden stopped. I dont know if hes on vacation and ports will continue later, or if he has gotten a new phone and stopped porting all together.
Others have stepped in, but their attempts leave parts of the phone in chinese, which is a major turn off for me.

that does seem to be true, i am going to look into the CIUI....as long as it seems stable i may give that a go, or the mod'd MIUI update that someone on MIUI.US is touting for the EVO..
in the mean time it looks as if Plume and gmaps are my biggist culprits running in the background with the screen off overnight...so i am going to turn off plume's background updating and force quit my gmaps and clear the data/cache for that app...never understood why Maps has no "exit"/quit function, it always stayed ON even wheni was unrooted....
I am still in the process of battery calibrating tho just to be sure
Which version of MIUI are you on? The concensus is that the 12.9 build is the last stable one before spiffspiff (guy who was porting) dissappeared.
as said it is in my signature of the op...1.12.9
there is apparently a new version (mod'd one tho) that is rumored to be very stable, and according to MIUI.US, someone is back on the case, but unsure to what extent
in the mean time i am looking for a new AOSP to try out

can swype be a culprit?
I must have missed your mention of already being on 12.9, my apologies.
I did see the discussion over at xda of some of the MIUI regulars piecing together an update themselves, but I haven't tried it -- so please report back if you try it.
And yes, it's great to hear from the guys over at MIUI.us that they're still going to support us! I hope the port over a version of ICS MIUI.
As far as your wakelock, I find it hard to believe swype is the culprit, but anything's possible. I tend to prefer the app Better Battery Stats to look for wakelocks - download it, then leave your phone unused for a bit, then open it to see if any apps are causing a wakelock.
If that doesn't work, the other (tedious) option is to flash fresh, then install apps one by one, checking some time after each install to see if any are the cause. (Those are my ideas, anyway, others may have other ideas...)

I am wondering if this is a MIUI specific thing..
I calibrated the battery 2 days ago too
of note, i flashed a different MIUI version since the original problem, and flashed the lateest TIAMAC (4.1.0-sbc) kernel
any clues?
Hmmm, those three apks definitely shouldn't be causing wakelocks... Which version of MIUI are you on now? (Wakelock issues have been reported on various versions)
Another thought: try the 3.3.7 version of Tiamat instead - I've had nothing but issues with all other versions, and most folks on xda still recommend it.
Have you tried one night in a wall charger instead of through your pc? Also, let the kernel settle whenever you first flash one. Give it a few charge cycles so your phone can adapt to it.

well, after i got to work things got worse, i had a couple of FC's and an auto reboot or two...
so i am now back to 1.12.9 with the Tiamat 3.37sbc (flashed the nand as soon as i noticed issues) i was running before..we'll see how tonites charge goes
still got 12 plus hours with 40% left, with 3g on fulltime and tweets and email pushed hourly, min use otherwise, cant complain

There are 2 spring-loaded locking mchanisms that keep the charging cabel in the charging port. Mine failed about 6 months in and I had to take it back to sprint. At first they slated me for a new phone, but then the tech said it was just the charger (specifically the 2 springs) Instaed of gicingme a stock charger they gave me a $20 credit to my account and sent me to best buy for a Rocket Fish charging cable. Apparently the locking spring on this cable have a much higher tension rating, and there's and audible click whenever I plug into my phone. I've been using it now for about 6 months and I still get the "click" every time. Maybe this would help you out.

not sure its the charging cable...not ruling it out yet, but not likely...
seems this morning it charged just fine, was at 100%
one thing i made sure i did was turn off the pop up that asked if i wanted USB connection to my computer...(ie do you want charge only)..now it doesnt ask...
i wonder if i had plugged it in these other times and fogot to answer the pop up and this kept things "on" ???
but on the other hand, i did check battery stats, and i had a solid "awake" bar that correlated with my "charging" bar, and a few other things including Hootsuite (twitter) "Network location" "Pulse reader" "telephony service" "messaging" "maps" and "email" and still "swype"
changed ROMs thinking MIUI was the issue, given the posts that implicate wakelock issues with that ROM.
So I hopped on Decks 1.3gb with tiamat3.3.7/sbc....
first night no charge issue, great battery life during the day
second night, went from 46% to 53% and thats it....battery indicator shows phone was awake and screen was on during the charge...(decks battery info not as detailed as MIUI so i dont know what was stuck on like when i was running that rom)
i am going to try freezing swype as that wasnt loaded first night, and that was a suspect prior..
then i will try a different cable too (but clearly i am awake while i am charging)...
this was the main reason i tried decks and ditched MIUI...
I was doing fine for about a week, then two days ago i started toget overninght not complete charge again, i am having some big wake locks..
even on programs i have uninstalled..
I cleared cache and dalvik, and that got rid of the orphan "com.'s"...but still wake locking...ugh, funny that once i unplug and plug in again, it finishes the charge without issue...
but i have noticed some decresead battery life yesterday, still not nearly like pre-root tho..so i cannot complain much
