Been reading about the new OTA update...I will not accept it because I am rooted..however, I have read that I can just download and flash the new radio's from this update.
Is this advisable? I am still on stock rom and kernel...this is what I have now...
Android version 2.33
Radio 2.15.00.0808
Software 4.54.651.1
PRI 2.15_003
PRL 61083
HBoot 6.16.1002
S-off running Amon Ra v2.3 recovery
Would like to update to the new radio version 2.15.00.12.19
Heard of better signal/3g etc..is this true and will it mess up anything?
I updated mine a few days ago using the zip file in recovery, took all of 15 minutes for me. I have seen quite a bit of improvement on 3g.
I understand times for installing may differ for everyone so make sure you have a fully charged battery, do not leave phone plugged in, charging, while doing this and NEVER pull the battery out while it is installing.

Sweet...I found 2 different download links...one was from xda-developer site and the other was from--dont remember.. but zip file was named.. CM-EVO_Radio-2.15.00.12.19_PRI-233_WIMAX_NV.zip?
Is this the correct download file for radio update?

Yep, that's the one I used, CM-EVO, I saw where MizzouBrent had posted it in another thread but couldn't find the link to it
Ok I lied it only took me a few seconds. Flash this in recovery. No renaming of the file is required. Just make sure you have at least 50% battery before flashing a radio update

Is there something wrong with leaving the phone on the charger while doing the update? O_O
No that I know of but your phone will not charge while in recovery
I was about to say lol I did it while my phone was plugged in and had no adverse affects. I updated through recovery (which took all of 2 minutes or less)

That is exactly the file I downloaded...so I will flash that and see what happens.
I will nandroid first..Do I need to wipe cache/dalvik, wimax only beforehand, then flash new radio?

I read a few threads on this and other sites before I updated that said it has caused issues in the past while updating radios and it was suggested to not have it plugged up.

By the way, you can download the new, updated and rooted stock ROM and flash that to get your ROM updated. Just wipe cache and dalvik cache first. No data wipe is required sooooo you wont lose any of your apps

Just wipe cache and dalvik but I don't even think you need to. certainly never hurts though
Just a sidenote..unrelated...I still have the 2 zip files on my phone for vr-superwipe and superuser file su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed from when I originally rooted...I can delete those right?

In amon ra style recovery, you can charge in recovery. Not sure with the original amon ra recovery though

Keep superwipe, it's a script to wipe data, boot, system and cache partitions.
On a side note, I did the update of my radios doing the hboot version. Updated perfectly.

ok...so, i am a little under educated when you say update of radio's using hboot...what does that mean...
EDIT-- I think I just figured it out....but does it matter that I have hboot 6.16.1002? Will it change my hboot?

There are 2 ways of doing the update of the radios. One is flashing the zip file in recovery and the other way is downloading the proper PC36IMG zip file and renaming the zip to PC36IMG.zip and put it on the root of the sdcard(no folders). Then booting to hboot and the phone will automatically recognize the PC36IMG.zip and will update the radios.
Either way is fine, I chose to do it the hboot way

My experience with the new radios and PRI has been pretty poor actually. I don't think the new radios like my phone without the stock ROM and kernel. Where can I go to roll the radio and PRI back to the previous one? Thanks

Calkulin has a thread on xda that has all versions of everything

I actually forgot to wipe mine, I don't believe it's necessary to but it wouldn't hurt anything if you do.

I wiped mine just in case. Updating through recovery takes longer than I would like, lol. I was actually scared when it rebooted and went back to recovery instead of going to the phone, but all is well and my phone isn't bricked.

but really you should try mikg3.0. it is way better then stock. and it already has the security issues taken care of which is included in the latest ota. and you can get that in the ROMs and Kernels Download Page. go to the gingerbread 2.3.3 sense 2.1 section for mikg3.0.
and there is no stupid questions here. the only stupid question is the one that is not asked.

That's what mine is doing right now, went back to recovery screen, just sitting there and says "Formatting CACHE......" I have not touched it....what should I do? Leave it and wait, or go ahead and reboot?

If the top of the screen is green( I think thats what color it is) or you can choose between the options then it is done and you are fine to reboot.

yeah it will kind of freak you out after flashing radios, because it will automatically kick you back into recovery and wipe your cache....it looks like cache is still formatting and you're afraid to touch anything, but in reality it only takes the cache a second to wipe. so as long as you can scroll through menus, you're good to reboot.

Awesome thread, just what I was looking for. I'm going to flash the radio but what is the:
PRI
NV
Also how I do update the PRL and whatnot since I'm running an AOSP without the options in settings.
Thanks!
You know I never could get a good answer for what they actually do. I just know that the are the radios. In the past some roms would do better if you downgrade your pri to 1.77. Now it is different.
As far as prl goes you need to flash to a sense ROM and update your prl then flash back to aosp.
Yes, you don't necessarily have to go back to a Sense rom. If you see some connectivity issues, it might be worth nanding back, updating, then nanding back to deck.
