I have only flashed a ROM once - MikG 2.56 and used patched to get to 2.61 (had stayed with stock for long period). Want to move to Mikg 3.0 after hearing how much better it is, but do not remember how to go about it!
Have partitioned SD card and Titanium Backup. (Have 'My Backup Pro' on boards, but have not used it since rooted.) Recovery = RA 2.3, Kernel = Anthrax
Where can I obtain the "cookbook" instructions for flashing the new ROM?
Good choice on moving up to MikG 3.0, you won't be dissatisfied.
The best thing to do is open up Titanium backup and backup all the apps you want to save the data for first.
Next is to download the Rom, and place it on the root of your sd card.
Then power down and boot into recovery. Scroll down to backup and make a nandroid. Make sure to select the sd ext since your card is partitioned.
Once that is done, select wipe from the main menu. Wipe everything on the list EXCEPT the sd card. It's a good idea to do it twice.
Next select flash from sd, select the Rom.
Reboot the phone.
Be patient with this boot, even after It's done, let the phone sit for at least another 10 minutes before you unlock the screen, anything. Just let it "settle" in. Unlock the phone and sign in.
To flash the kernel, make sure its on your sd card. Boot to recovery and wipe only the cache partition and the dalvik cache. With the Anthrax kernel there are a few extra steps, I can't remember what they are off hand. I'm on my phone or else I would link you the instructions for flashing. Check out the kernels section in the root guide at the top of the forum in there you'll find that kernel, the instructions are listed in there.
If you get stuck or have any questions we'll ne here to help.
When I 'restore all apps and data' (without system data), will the phone's home pages be back as well. Also will calendar, contacts, and messages be back. Since I have not wiped SD card, assume photos will be OK?
Anything else that should concern me that I have not asked?
Calendar, contacts, and messages are system apps, so you will not be saving those. You can backup SMS messages with a different application (I never bother with this, so the name slips me) and contacts should be saved to the google cloud, but you can export them to your SD card for safe keeping.
And the homescreen will not be backed up.
Basically TB is used if you have game progress that you dont want to lose or another program such as scoremobile that you don't want to have to set back up with your favorite teams or logins.

Oh Well, I tried but...! I made nandroid (including sd-ext); wiped cache, dalvik, and SD-ext, all X3; then flashed mikG 3.0. When phone rebooted, a blue screen appeared and it staaaayed without anything else showing. Tried to power off, but that didn't work. After battery pull, powered on, but blue screen returned (waited 10-15 minutes). I again pulled battery, powered on while holding volume down and installed the nandroid that I had made. Many of my apps were missing, so I used Titanium to "replace missing apps and data". This did NOT replace all of the missing apps, so I reinstalled individual apps that now had 'cross-outs' in Titanium.
Now I am more or less back to baseline of pre-attempt at flashing new ROM.
Problem is that I was looking forward to MikG 3.0, but now not sure how to proceed! Frustrated and Frustrating!!

what recovery do you have? sounds like you did not wipe very well. like mizzuo said make sure that you wipe data. also you might want to try flashing supwipe as well. the instructions on how to flash roms can be found here:ROOTING For Dummies Guide.....the Gingerbread Edition as well as how to switch recoveries.

I have Amon RA 2.3
SD card partitioned
I have 'ZZZVR_SUPERWIPE' on the SD card
Do I wipe EVERYTHING except SD card?
Should I try again; wiping everything except SD-Data X3 plus superwipe?
Why did Titanium not replace all of my missing apps???
Thanks, sorry for being a "dense pest"

Since you have Amon RA 2.3, do not worry about wiping three times. Amon RA wipes the first time (unlike clockwork, which does not always wipe properly). So here is what you should do.
I spoke too soon; Titanium did not download/return all missing apps. When I tried to download them from the market, I get the message "insufficient space on device" although there is > 6 GB on card and > 200MB on device.
Also the Amazon Appstore is nowhere to be found!
What a nightmare! I guess that not everybody is meant to be 'a flasher'

I had about 110 prior to trying to flash 3.0, but Titanium installed the frozen and and deleted apps as well. Will try to go through a delete from the list in Titanium (not via the uninstall app).
Interestingly, the Amazon Appstore is not in any of the lists in Titanium. Not sure how to re-obtain this since several of the apps were obtained via Amazon.
After flashing MikG 3.0 (following the guidance above), I am missing several apps including Amazon Market. I tried to download via market or by sending apks via email, but I get message "insufficient memory on device". Phone is rooted and SD card partitioned. I rebooted and cleared cache and dalvik - no change. Some of the missing apps appear in the Titanium list but they are not replaced in the app tray. (I have 110 apps on phone.)
Any ideas or thoughts how I can salvage the situation. It seems that the phone "thinks" there is insufficient memory although there is plenty.
Thanks in advance for you much needed guidance and assistance.
Good News: I THINK that my phone is functioning and appears snappier with MikG3.0. Apps have been able to update and Amazon Market has returned. I wonder if my phone merely took longer than usual "post flash" to "Settle Down"?!?
Thanks to everybody who helped me "get it right" installing MikG3.0 and for helping me maintain/regain sanity!!
One small problem I seem to have is that, even using manual sync [via settings], my phone calendars (Jorte and Business Calendar) do not and will not sync with my Google account calendar. Any ideas?

never use my calender really so i'm not sure. i would go into recovery and wipe dalvik cache and cache and see if that helps.
