Default Trying to Reroot. Telling me i'm S-OFF when I'm not.

So i rooted my sisters evo 4g with ROOTING For Dummies Guide.....the Gingerbread Edition <--that guide.
then had to unroot her phone with <--- that video and tried to reroot her evo with the same rooting guide i used before. I keep getting this screen that's attached below. So at thsi point i'm very frustrated. I've factory reset her phone and deleted traces of rooting that could still be on her phone. but now idk what else to do. i'm very irritated. Please help me out !

Power phone off pull battery and wait 10 sec. Put battery back in hold power and volume down untill u get into the hboot screan
There it should tell you either s on or s off also the h boot verson,
If you took the newest update it will show 2.18 and revolution wont work.
Also the video u used was for unrevolked so you may still be s off. Post back what it says for h boot and s off or s on

welcome to the forums!

at this point, it looks like you are still rooted. Is that what you want?

i would try to install the amon ra recovery and flash a rom. Or if you are going to stay stock and want to use root apps, dl and install the superuser app, if you don't have it already.

Here are the directions in case you are interested.

ROOTING For Dummies Guide.....the Gingerbread Edition

"speaking of recovery i would really recommend that everyone switch to amon ra 2.3. it is a much better recovery then clockwork mod. you can get the recovery here: PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip
here are the instructions:
1.download the file.
2.rename the file by erasing the "_RA_2.3" part of the name so that it is only named PC36IMG. make sure not to add ".zip" to the name as windows hides extensions.
3.transfer the file to the root (that means not in any folder) of the sd card.
4.power off (you most likely need to uncheck fastboot. settings/apps/uncheck fastboot.) then press and hold power+vol down.
5.hboot should see the file and select yes to update.
6.select no to reboot because we want to go into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
7.select recovery.
8.select backup and restore and select backup
9. select the first three and wimax. the other partitions do not need to be backed up. always keep one nandroid backup with wimax keys backed up on your computer.
10.now you can reboot.
11.using a file manager of some sort or even through your computer via usb, you should rename or delete the PC36IMG file on your card. otherwise you will be asked to update every time you go to the hboot screen. you do not need that file any more.

you can get older versions of clockwork mods and amon ra here:Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire.
also there is a new recovery from teamwin :TeamWin Recovery Project (twrp) v1.0.3"

Do you have the stock recovery? What happens when you try to get to the recovery? Do you get a red triangle or is it accessible?

It says your S-on.

Ok you have s on but still have the rooted h boot and recovery. You will need to run this ruu from the pc with the phone pluged in usb debuging on and charge only selected. This will fully unroot you. after doing this DO NOT TAKE THE OTA FROM SPRINT IT WILL MAKE IT VERY HARD TO ROOT AGAIN !!!! Then you can re root using revolutiony as before. Back up anything you want to save this will put the phone as if it just came out of the box,

No download the ruu.exe that i posted to your desk top on the pc. Then with the phone on plug it into the computer with usb debuging on and charge only, Open the file and run it on the conputer and follow the instructions on the computer. When it finishes you should have h boot 2,15 or 2.16. and stock sense 1.0. then you will be able to root with revolutionary. BUT AGAIN IF YOU GET PROMPTED TO DO AN OTA UPDATE ON THE PHONE BEFORE YOU ROOT IT DONT ACEPT IT,

but she was already rooted correct? so all that you would have to do is give her a new rom and a new kernel. besides there is never a guarantee about battery life to many variables that determine it.

for one, rooting my phoen helped my battery life & when her phone was rooted it helped her's too sooooo i guess that "variables" were great & another thing i can root my phone if i want to. idk why people get so defensive about other people rooting their phones. and she wasn't rooted...did you not read this whole thread...her hboot says she S-ON but the program says she's rooted & i cannot get into recovery because it won't let me.

so what are you talking about?

Well yes and no. What I see is s on and stock recovery but h boot 6.17 so I dont think you can do a PC36IMG to get a recovery and revolutionary wont turn s off because of the h boot. I could be wrong. Some how he or she got s on and stock recovery with out changing the H Boot

should have been able to do that rooted as long as she was on a Sense ROM.

FYI
I never get upset when someone is trying to root. I think its the best thing one can do. I do get confused however when a phone is rooted and someone wants to unroot to reroot. there is no need for that unless you are taking the phone in to sprint do to do warranty work.

I see so many people unroot the phone just to accept an OTA then want to root back, its ridiculous. I think people should come in here and find out what options they have before just jumping the gun.
