So I'm really confused. Last time I went into the recovery - to flash Tiamat 4.07, I'm running CM7 - I used the recovery suggested in the Rooting for Dummies (Amon Ra?). However, I just went in there to wipe delvic cache and try a different Kernel and it's now apparently running ClockwordMod Recover v5.0.2.2. What happened?? I've not done anything to the phone since I flashed the knew kernel which was over a month ago.
Not a big deal to just reinstall amon ra, right? Do you remember how?
Grab a copy out of someone's signature (most peopple have it) and put it on your root sd card. Turn off the phone, turn it back on whilst holding down the bottom rocker button to open hboot. It will scan for the pc36img file and ask if you wanna update, say yes, then it will ask if you wanna reboot, say no, then bott into recovery.

I first noticed because it was different colors, and it says clock work at the top. I tried to run superwipe and it just gave me an error saying something had upgraded to 3.0.

I think that is true if you have checked recovery in your nandroids.
If you have not then its very interesting that it showed up like that. I would be very interested in knowing how it got there if you did not dl it and put it on.
I'm done with rooting. I just reinstalled Amon Ra and now it's in a bootloader loop. This is ****ing infuriating, I've had nothing but problems with the phone since I rooted, on 2 different ROMS and 3 different kernels it's been a POS, everything runs slower.

Time to go back to normal.
Rooting is not for everyone. Sorry you seem to be having issues. Your in a bootloader loop because you probably destroyed the boot partition, and need to flash a ROM to restore it. It's really not that big of a deal however if you are not willing to do a bit of work then staying with stock is your best bet. Only running 2 different ROMS is very small amount of ROMs before throwing in the towel. One would not drive only twice before giving up would they? While I definitely understand your frustration I can hardly empathize with you. I've fallen off of horses and well I just get back on.
If Rooting is not for you then I am truely sorry for your Bad Experience. I hope that you have better luck in the future.

Not to be funny and I know this is kind of a late reply at this point, but if he is running Amon RA Recovery version 2.3, how could he have restored a ClockworkMod Recovery based Nandroid? I know that recoveries can and do back up the recovery partition if needed, but those two are incompatible.
The sequence of events just leads me to believe that restoring a ClockworkMod Recovery Nandroid with Amon RA Recovery is impossible. From my experience, you could only restore an alternate version of the same recovery that you are already on in that situation.

Any of the newer recoveries based on amon RA can restore both backups

Correct if its v2.3 but its also impossible for the recovery to install itself. I'm sure the op did something that they don't remember doing. As far as the Recovery partition I was really just throwing something out there.

Indeed, they can restore both types. But, I think the original poster was using Amon RA Recovery version 2.3, which is why I posed the question in my last post.
I suppose this will just have to remain a mystery. It was a thought provoker though.
