Revolutionary bootloader screen on brand new evo 4g?
My company phone was recently replaced with a new evo 4g. My old evo 4g was rooted with revolutionary. I put the sd card and battery from my old phone into the new one and now the bootloader screen says revolutionary S-off even though I have not done ANY thing with the new phone as far as rooting. Also the command prompt will not recognize the phone after typing adb devices. It says devices attached and it's blank. Now I can't reutrn it because they are going to think its rooted even though I haven't even touched it. Has this happened to anyone else and how do I fix it.
Probably whatever was saved onto the SD card must've been rooted and you brought it over to your new phone. Kinda like a memory card holding data and settings can be carrier over to a new device and load those settings.

ok lets very a few things. what is your hboot? does it say s-on or s-off? all of this info will be displayed in the bootloader screen. report back with what you find and we can figure out what is going on.

The screen says HBOOT-6.16.1002. Supersonic EVT2-3 Ship S-Off. Not sure what the date at the bottom indicates but it's the now exactly like my old phone. It won't boot into recovery either since it's not actually rooted.

What happens when you take the sd card out and reboot? If it is limited to data on your old sd card somehow transferring over to your new unrooted Evo, then you can either format the sd card or not run it.

It sounds like it might have been a refurb or something that was previously rooted. Just flash recovery in the bootloader and you'll have full root. Or there is a guide to unroot revolutionary also so either way, you're covered.
I think the phone is for sure a refurb. The screen looks like a lower quality and I can tell they patched the battery compartment after working on the insides.
The problem is I can't boot into recovery. When I try to the screen shows a phone with a green arrow circle, then it turns red. Like I said I don't really think it's rooted. No superuser or anything.
As for taking the sd card out. I did do that and reformated the card still showing revolutionary on the bootloader.
I have tried some of the unrooting procedures, but the phone will not be detected on the command prompt.
I may just have to call the company back and tell them they sent me a previously rooted phone. That may sound a little suspicious though.
Does anyone know what the date on the bootloader screen stands for. Is that when the phone was rooted or manufactured?
I believe your best bet is to call the company back and tell them they gave you a previously rooted Evo. Whether it sounds suspicious or not, it's the truth.

yep i agree with frenchy and everyone else here. there is no way a phone can spontaneously root itself like that. getting the securities to turn off is not an easy thing and takes a certain program to run.
we can get you fully rooted or unrooted if you like, that will be up to you or your company. let us know and we can help.

You can't get into recovery because, even though you're S-OFF, you have the stock recovery installed. This happens when you run a RUU file on an S-OFF device without enabling S-ON. So you have a stock setup with the permissions to write whatever you want to the phone.
I would definitely let your company know what happened and ask if it's even ok to have a rooted device. My work won't allow a rooted android device if I'm going to set it up to receive work information.

Apparently the phone is brand new. The reconditioned status on the phone has been verified. It says "no". The tech also swears the phone is new and will not send me a new one unless there is something wrong with it (functioning properly at this point). She claims that her company must have done it, even though I explained to her that this was highly unlikely, especially with revolutionary.
Point is they won't send me a new one. I guess I'll try to unroot my "new, never been tampered with phone". I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Thanks for all the replies.

Alright......very happy, but also very pissed off. My phone is rooted. You were right Brent all I had to do was install a new recovery. Revolutionary at bootloader, but HTC recovery, kinda weird but it works. I was able to flash MikG no problem. So I'm very happy my replacement phone is going to be just as cool as my last. Now I just don't know how to feel about being lied to by customer service........................
Thank to everybody that helped out!! Much appreciated!!!!
