Swipe to unlock screen is gone and can't get in the phone
Hi and thank you in advance for your support.
I have an Unlocked rooted HTC EVO 4G.
Recently the phone was using its charge in half a day and last night while using a battery saver utility noticed that an app was using most of the power. The app was called Picture Gallery (or something like that) and I decided to uninstall it. Once the screen locked however I noticed that the "unlock" screen no longer showed up (this is the screen you see when you want to awake your phone and you swipe the screen to onlock it.
The screen previously showed a slide show which lead me to believe that the Picture Gallery app removal might have something to do with the problem.
The phone is fully functional, it rings when a call arrives and the notification bar shows incoming emails and stuff. however the home screen shows no app icons, i cant answer calls, etc... as the screen is locked.
In order for him to do a nandroid restore they need to have done one prior to flashing!
I'm not sure why you'd delete such an essential folder!
I'm afraid you'll have to reflash your ROM.
I mistakenly deleted a clock widget while running MikG as I was running low on space and ended up with the same issue.
RXper83 was a doll and edited the MikG zip for me to reflash without loosing all my data since I hadn't set up Titanium Backup yet.
If you've had TB set up to backup your system and data then you are in luck for you can do a full restore since it's the same ROM.
Every single setting will be restored...with the exception of your sound...you'll have to assign those again

The easiest way out of this is to either A) Restore a nandroid or B) wipe dalvik cache & cache and then flash the ROM over itself or C) Do a full wipe and flash a new ROM
However, if you have MikG... flashing the ROM over itself will not work because mik set that ROM up to wipe when you flash it.
This is why its so important to do a nandroid before playing with the system folder.

I ended up flashing the upgrade for the ROM I was using [MikG v3.11] (which does not wipe the data) and sure enough got the lock screen back.
A note for anyone who in the future is dealing with the same problem:
Since I could not get beyond the lock screen I could not switch the phone to USB drive in order to download the ROM zip file to the SD card.
You can obviously remove the SD card and with an adapter. I didn't have one so I created a backup for the current state of the phone, then restored to a backup I had made before rooting the phone, got in to the phone, downloaded the ROM update to the SD card then restored the phone to the latest back up (which got me back to where I was). Once the phone had been restored to the faulty condition but with all of my current data and settings I flashed the ROM update.
The phone is now back to where it was before I deleted the app that the lock screen was using :-)
Detailed instructions on back ups, restores and flashing the ROM where available on the Rooting for dummies post on this forum.

Wasn't the MikG zip file already in your SD from when you did the first flash?
If that was the case all you had to do was reboot in recovery (when you power off and choose reboot it asks you if how you want to reboot and one of the options is recovery or you can do the vol down + power), wipe the necessary partitions, go to flash and choose the MikG ROM zip file that should still be there from your previous flash.
Then you do the restore of prior to the little mishap and presto...you're good to go.
(this is provided you previously flashed from your SD card and didn't delete the MikG file after flashing of course )

If he had saved the original MIKG and restored it he would have wiped all his data as mikg does. so he needed the upgrade in order not to wipe. However a point which I've always said is that you should have a good working ROM on your phone at all times just for silly little stuff like this. however your instructions were right on Just in cases where the ROM wipes everything first it is not going to work. If you know how to modify the full ROM you can do that to remove the wipe from the initial instructions. That is what expert did for you was to give you one where he modified the file that tells it to format and what.
