Just as simple as flashing a ICS rom. There are many out there, but at the moment my favorite is the Strike ICS.

[ROM][8/11/2012] Strike! - AOSP Speed FTW ~ [D.I.R.T]

Use the link below for info on many roms.

HTC EVO 4G Android

Edit: Just note that there are no ICS roms with 4G or FFC (front facing camera) and some have issues with videos.

I dont think there is an official ICS for Evo 4g.
However there are roms that have ICS "looks".
Check out this page

ROMs and Kernels Download Page

Or this page
HTC EVO 4G Android

For lots of different roms!
BTW...welcome to AF!!!

I think the best way is to read the things in post #2 of this guide...

[Revised] Rooting Gingerbread 2.3.5 Dummies Guide

It will help you to make a nandroid backup first (a must do before flashing anything) and flashing roms.
Then read the rom's op for additional instructions.
Do you know what recovery you have?

o.k...I have heard issues with that recovery but we can change the now or later..(need to know if you are s-off or s-on first for that)
Amon ra or smelkus mod recovery are very good recoveries.
I use smelkus, but like I said, need to know if you are s-on or s-off...
Just wipe really well with that recovery...perhaps 3 times....wipe all 3 times EXCEPT SD CARD...do not wipe sd card.

You mean like cm9 or cm 10 etc.? Not sure as
I dont run cm myself, and the whole nightlys and cm roms confuse me.
However, there is a cm9 based rom that PapaSmurf has put out and I believe an update will be coming for it, and when it updates, I will be trying it.
See this link
[ROM] [LOTK] SmurfMod9 (8/1/12) - xda-developers

Otherwise, currently I am on DecksReloaded, which will also update soon.

Ah, gotcha.
Something better is matter of opinion. I used to be on MikG v3.11 when I first rooted.....very nice sense rom that's close to stock that I themed out with all the themes/mods for it.
Then I found Decks Reloaded...AOSP based rom....very quick on my phone..quicker than MikG. AOSP roms, like cm, tend to be quicker than sense roms such as Mikg.
Anyhoo, just check out the links biker and I have provided and try some for yourself
If you have any flashing questions just ask...!

The first ROM that biker recommended in the 2nd post, is a great ICS ROM for the EVO 4G to try out. Savoca's Strike!

i would also recommend http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/552324-rom-decks-reloaded-lotk-team-d-i-r-t-ver-44-mag-rls.html.

and i would switch recoveries to amon ra 2.3. if you go to the first method in the guide that mikey linked earlier, the HTCdev method and go to step #2 to switch recoveries to amon ra.

your recovery now CWM does not do a very good job in wiping.

Loaded the CM7.2 "stable" but all it does is constantly repeat the splash screen.

I just want a stable ROM with Sense that is secure and doesn't have all the Sprint bloat.

Any help appreciated.

Does not bode well.

Which recovery do you have? I would highly recommend the Smelkus v4.3 recovery. If you're stuck at the splash screen, my guess is that you didn't wipe everything properly. If you move to smelkus recovery, in the wipe options, do the top 4 wipes, then flash rom, flash gapps.

Even if you're not interested in cm7 anymore, I would still move to smelkus recovery

MikG 3.11 works quite well, and better than OEM ROM.

Energy (same developer as Energy for WP6?) looks like it has good potential also.

Sticking with MikG 3.11 for now as it is very capable.

smelkus is a recovery while titanium backup is an app. they do completely different things. tb backs up apps and its data and can freeze and uninstall apps. smelkus can make nandroid backups, wipe and flash roms and such.

so what recovery do you have?

a custom recovery is kind of like a mini os. on the phone you have the android os(this will depend on the rom you are on, but in general it is gingerbread, ICS or JB), then there is the bootloader, and finally you have your recovery.

like mikey said revolutionary is just a program used to get root. now what some get confused about is that revolutionary automatically installs a custom recovery called clockwork mod and in the recovery menu it mentions revolutionary when it is not.

If no he didn't change the recovery after rooting then likely clockworkmod is the recovery. If that's the case, well

OK, so Clockwork mod and nandroid are recoveries?

No Clockworkmod or revolutionary in the list of installed applications.

Clockwork mod is a recovery...as is Amon ra, smelkus, twrp, etc.
Revolutionary is a rooting program. Unrevoked is a rooting program. (for our phones)

Nandroid--when you hear people say "nandroid" or "make a nand backup" or "restore from nand"---it is basically a backup --a saved "snapshot" of your current phones state. This backup is made in the recovery. A nandroid backup will be your best-est friend when things you change go wonky

As far as recovery, we all recommend Amon ra or the newer, smelkus.

Edit: hey...lookie there...3000...yay me

Looks like I have to go into Recovery Mode or Bootloader to install it.

Once you download the PC36IMG file, just rename the file PC36IMG.zip....be sure to not add an extra .zip to the end, windows hides file extentions. Also be sure to put it on the root of the sd card...not in any folder. If not done like this, bootloader will not find it.

Then power phone off, boot into bootloader by holding volume down and power at the same time, continue holding both buttons until your bootloader screen comes up....a few seconds later, it will scan for the PC36IMG file and will ask you to update...say yes...then reboot.
If installed successfully, you can now either rename, or delete that file so bootloader does not find it again, as you already installed it.

Are you s-off or s-on....your bootloader screen should tell ya.
The reason I ask, is if you are s-on, then we need to go about installing smelkus in a different way.

Well, when I say root, I mean, top level, not in any folder...not specifically a folder named "root", but you got the jist of it

Edit: bah, doggone ninjas 'round here

No, you have to do that manually... Smelkus is an awesome recovery but not quite that good It's all good

That would be nice tho, before a rom flash, the recovery would automatically make a nand backup wouldn't it?

No problem,
go into the recovery, select backup, I cant remember exactly where it is at....when you start the backup process, you have some options to check off, to back up...again, I cannot remember what they all are
If you want, when you get to that point, post back what option there are to backup and I can tell you which ones to check off

I got into recovery mode and using the default first 3 checked boxes, did a nandroid backup. I was thinking MikG3.11 was causing trouble in that it was randomly rebooting all the time. Now, however, I cannot call out, or it will call the last number on it's own accord.

So I will disassemble it today to check for any visual damage. If there is none I will try to reload a different ROM that is stable, or even the stock one (OTA?) to try to determine if it is hardware related or not.

Any recommendations? I really do not want to lose root and S-off unless I return the phone.

Thanks for all of your and Ocnbrze help.

I would try to go back into recovery and do a combo wipe of cache and dalvik cache and perhaps even fix permissions (wouldn't hurt).
Reboot and see if that clears up your phone call issue

Otherwise there are many other roms to try. Just dont accept the OTA updates please

for more roms go here: {The List} Utilities/Apps/Roms/Kernels for the OG EVO. there is a staff pick section that has some suggestions of very stable roms to try out.

Well, I thought about it, and the phone was not executing the dial command, so I assumed it was a software program and decided to reload MikG v3.11.

All went fine until it said the SD card needed formatting. So I am copying that to a folder, formatting, then I will attempt a copy back.

If this does not work, I will definitely try the Nitrous ROM.

Thanks.

Got MikG 3.11 up and running, worked great then it froze. I wonder if it was a caller ID add in? Of course neither was it allowing text box entry.

On to nitrous. A little fatter, unfortunately.

Nitrous seems fine now with no caller ID apps. Miss a few things and not as slim as MikG 3.11, but more stable so far.
