Default adjust wimax settings?!?

I'm rooted and running CM7.2. I will bein the Portland, Oregon area soon and will hopefully be using wimax finally.

I remember hearing about some fixes (via using the dialer) where you could adjust the time delay in searching for wimax coverage and also adjust the level of signal used to connect.
  • Any Evo 4g/Supersonic owners have success with these?
  • Will they work on Cm7.2 Gingerbread?
  • Any adverse problems with trying these hacks?(O remembrr hearing that messing with radios are one of the few ways to solidly brick your phone.

first off not on cm7.2. what you are talking about is the qpst codes. those will only work on most sense roms. and i have not come across codes for wimax. not saying that there is not one, but i have not seen it.

and just an fyi sprint will be discontinuing wimax. so at some point you will not see any wimax towers going up. sprint is going in the lte direction.

Thanks for responding. There are codes for wimax. You can alter the level of signal your phone will accept and the time delay to try and reacquire signal.

What I need to know is if the changes persist between flashing ROMS. if they do, I can flash a Sense ROM, make the changes, then flash back to CM7.

Oh, and yes Sprint will discontinue using wimax, but not until 2015. Clear Network, whose towers we usually use on wimax, will continue using it. If there isn't a replacement phone out I want by that point, I'll switch to a prepaid service for phone service and my wimax service to Clear.

I've not seen any 'codes' for wimax. However you can alter the wimax tcp buffer size, which is done by tweaks either to the RAMdisk or via tweaks in the init.d. Most custom roms have their own values or use similar. Is this what you are talking about?

How to Get 4G WiMax to Reconnect Quicker on HTC Evo 3D/4G! | HTC Evo 4G Hacks!

[INFO] WiMAX EPST Settings - xda-developers

Quote:
O] WiMAX EPST Settings

This information was pulled from the EVO4G forum. I realize the information is NOT new, so don't be a jerk and tell me it's old info. I am posting it in the EVO 3D forum to make it easier for 3D users to find as it IS relevant and useful information.

To access/change these settings you will need your Master Subsidy Lock (MSL) code. If you don't know it, don't bother wasting your time on the phone with Sprint to get it. Just grab the MSL Reader app from the market, it's free. Changes can be made via the EPST menu. Dial ##3282# and choose edit mode. Here is where you will need that MSL code. Choose WiMax in the menu. Make changes AT YOUR OWN RISK!

WiMAX_Scan_Retry(s) Range = 15 to 1800 seconds This tells the phone how often to scan for a WiMAX signal when not connected to WiMAX.

WiMAX_Idle_Sleep(s) Range = 5 to 300 seconds This tells the WiMAX to sleep after x number of seconds idle.

WiMAX_Entry_RX(RSSI)(dBm) Range = -110 to -60dBm This represents the lowest dBm level needed to connect.

WiMAX_Entry_CINR(dB) Range = 4 to 10 dB This represents the Carrier to Interface Noise Ratio. The higher it is, the cleaner the signal quality has to be to connect.

WiMAX_Exit_CINR(dB) Range = 0 to 8 dB Same concept as entry CINR. If the signal quality degrades below this setting, it will drop the connection.

WiMAX_Exit_Delay(s) Range = 0 to 600 seconds If the signal quality drops below the if the WiMAX_Exit_CINR(dB) setting for X seconds, it will drop the connection
.

okay, didn't know about them, as they wouldn't work over here, but from the comments made it appears it wouldn't work on CM7 as it requires a rom based off htc sense. Is that your message which has a reply too?? Says the settings won't stick.

ahhhh yeah, just had a big brain fart. LOL cm7 will not work epst codes. you need to be on sense. you can do the code on a sense rom and then nand back to cm7.

No, it wasnt my message. Also, I've seen other threads where people have said the settings do stick between flashes. So, having heard conflicting things, I thought I'd ask here, where I have a membership.

yes the settings will stick. you just need to flash a sense rom to enter epst as aosp does not support it. once you have entered the codes then you can nandroid back to aosp and you should be fine.

Cool

I thought I'd return to this thread and let people know how things turned out.

I moved to Portland and while there is decent Wimax signal on the sidewalk, a quarter block away from my apartment, I could not get a signal any closer to my apartment. So, I bit the bullet.

I did a NAND backup, switched to the SMELKUS (from Amon Ra) recovery, restored my original Clockwork Mod recovery (backup of stock Sense ROM) from when I first rooted. I then used the codes described in the earlier post to adjust my Wimax codes. I then reflashed back to CM7.2. I also took the time to finally partition my SD cards.

I now have a "Good" Wimax signal just outside my apartment. In my heavily insulated apartment, I can get a "Fair" or "Good" signal by my front door... which coincidentally, is right next to my flatscreen TV (can't get a signal anywhere else in the apartment tho).

I use 3g everywhere in my apartment, except when I'm streaming videos/music, or using my cellphone as my home computer, via my HDMWin app to my television.

Right now, I'm using my bluetooth mouse and keyboard while kicking back on my sofa. My phone is connected to my TV, which now serves as my computer monitor/smart TV. My 4g speeds vary from .9MB download to 3.8MB. Upload is from .2MB to 2.3MB. I usually average about 1.6MB download.

I can't say how pleased I am that this hack worked.

One other unrelated note: I have been typing on my bluetooth keyboard and using my mouse while writing or doing video chat on my Evo while at coffeehouses here in Portland. I have had numerous people ask me about my "new" phone and where they could get something like that. Apparently, an extended/removable battery, HDMI out, 4g, a full bluetooth stack... are things that people want, they just didn't know a phone could do all that. Too bad it's now considered "obsolete".
