Flashed it. The installer alone is a thing of beauty. Letting Titanium load up all my missing apps, then I get to play around. My night just got a whole lot more interesting...

I'm liking it so far, but the 3-finger gestures seem to be completely non-operational.

Other than that, this will be my daily.

Oh, this will definitely be my daily. I was able to work around the lack of 3-finger gestures with some button remaps. I'm sure the bugs will get ironed out in future builds.

methinks the new ROM deserves a new thread?

Moved out of the old Charmeleon thread for clarity.

I'm crawling out of my skin I want to flash this so bad.

Seems very nice, put it on my SD along with Mean2.4 which I already flashed. Look forward to seeing some real time results from folks here. Might have to switch over, the OTA updates are just so nice.

I think I've found a new daily! This is one of the most fully-featured, polished ROMs I have ever used.

However, it doesn't appear that there have been any memory-management tweaks to improve multitasking. Just my seat-of-the-pants first impression after a few hours with it, and I haven't made any tweaks myself yet.

I upgraded my twrp prior to installing this, coming from charmeleon. I think something is wrong with my superuser now. TB is stuck on asking for root permissions and keeps flashing a TB has been granted permissions message. Also when I try to open the SU app it says "there is no SU binary installed and SuperSu cannot install it. This is a problem!". Can someone please advise. Thanks

Can you uninstall/reinstall from market?

Also, did you do a full wipe?

Yes I've uninstalled tb and reinstalled. I don't see the same looking SU that I have in the market. Is it ok to just grab a different one from the market from the available choices?
Yes I also did a full wipe

Best to not experiment with superuser. Unbelievably, as the poster boy for Charmeleon and this rom, I just did my installation and am restoring stuff now.

As soon as that's finished, I'll look under the hood and give you an opinion, it's probably something minor but tricky.

Meanwhile, do a smart update with Busybox Installer - I recommend stericson's - you're going to be wanting/needing that in any case.

Did you opt for the custom install or the full rom?

I think that may be it. Update Busybox, then click on SuperSU, it should then give a message - needs updating - answer OK.

Then try TB.

Looks like mikey finally has some competition!

Backing up now to give this a trial run. It looks pretty amazing.

edit..

Word from the wise, be sure to update your twrp as stated in the op. I still had 2.1.8 on mine and usually ignore the warnings - as I did this time - and had a nasty experience. I backed up, wiped everything, then ran the installer and it crashed back to twrp. I ran it again and it started but crashed during the install back to twrp. It was acting like it installed something so I rebooted and of course that didn't work because there wasn't an OS. I downloaded the new twrp, booted into bootloader and flashed it. Once updated, everytime it restarted it went back to bootloader and tried to apply the update again, and I couldn't get to twrp with the zip on the sd card so I pulled the card (after taking off the otterbox defender lol) and deleted it and popped it back in, got into twrp and finally got the rom installed.

I figured I'd pass that along to save anyone else dumb enough not to follow the directions a headache. lol

That said, the rom seems pretty sweet. Hopefully he mods rosie to have at least a 4x5 grid or I'll have to bail on it soon. I don't know what htc was thinking with a 4x4 grid on a screen this big.

I have forgotten how much fun it is to enter all of my passwords for syncing and mail after a full wipe!

Only a few minor errors to feedback to the team so far.

Entry stopped working towards the end of the install for account setup in the Aroma Installer, no big deal.

Whenever changing notification bar and restarting, have to toggle wifi off / on to get accurate signal reading, that was a Charmeleon bug that came along for the ride.

Otherwise, fabulous!

I kinda feel like I'm cheating on Mean ROM. I'm digging the heck out of thus ROM so far. I'm getting much better speeds. I think mine is haunted. On loading screens I get the ghost of the three dot menu button at the bottom of the screen. Hasn't caused any issues though, and kinda makes me giggle. Thanks Team Venom.

Blind or not seeing it.

Screen shot?

Also, Vin said that they are handling it differently somehow and posted a build.prop edit to make 3-dot handling as before.

Like that screen shot the keyboard is cut off 3 posts up.

The devs hacked HTC's OTA system so that it looks to their servers and they can push their ROM updates as OTA's.

Ok so I ended up reflashing but this time doing a full install as opposed to the custom one I did initially. I don't know what about the custom upset super user, but once I did the full install everything worked the way it should. thanks for the helpful tips.

on another note, is there a setting within to tweak the dialer?? I thought I saw something about it somewhere but can't recall where, or if I n fact saw it at all?????

another weird thing for me is that I remember when I did that custom install my lock screen ring was black. since doing the full install I can't figure out how to get that back, as it has reverted back to the silver color

That's a theme difference.

Still trying to get my arms around all of the themes.

Yes. You should be notified that there is an ota available, and on this rom you can actually take it from my understanding.

So we're supposed to take the OTA's?

Even knowing it's supposedly coming from them it's going to hard to accept one of those for the first time in 4 years... lol

Btw, lowetax to the rescue for anyone else that wants a 4x5 grid. I just installed it and it's working fine. Just be sure to change permissions when you do.

Anyone tried a Launcher with this such as Holo, Go, or SSLauncher? I'm just getting this installed this morning and will be able to play with it only for a few before I have to go to work. Busy day ahead.

I've been using both Apex Launcher and Nova Launcher because I'm a senseless kinda guy. Not a problem with either. Definitely give this ROM a shot, you won't regret it.

You can get the black lock ring by selecting the "Matte" skin under Settings -> Personalize -> Skins. This also gives you the dark-themed flip-clock.

Nova works great, but I find myself going back to the Sense launcher more and more with this ROM.

My understanding is that they are OTAs for the custom ROM. So basically if an HTC OTA gets released, they repackage the ROM with the new base and then push out their own OTA.

I understand that we can expect bug fixes out of the normal OTA cycle as well with this.

It's going to be so weird accepting an IT's update after years of thinking, "NEVER accept OTA!"

Exactly!!

I am looking for a crystal clear explanation on the process with screen shots.

If we get a popup saying Viper, no problem for me, but otherwise I am going to just stare at it.

I wish they would push out an OTA with basically only a small version change so that people will experience it and know what to expect.

The phone should only be checking for OTA's from viper's servers. So anything regarding an OTA that you get should just be a ROM update/bug fix.

I imagine that they will. They've already committed to one bug fix in the XDA thread.

And they've said all along, this approach is for people who use their phone for work and can't be flashing roms all of the time. Much as I like MeanRom and Mike, that was a problem for me and why I avoided the merry go round this time.

I value stable update schedules and rom changes the install and tweak way over the best possible performance.

So, I expect faster updates than stock, but slower than MeanRom, for example.

And once I go for some sort of kernel update, I expect the top performance to be there.

And if not, there's always MeanRom and CleanRom, both excellent alternatives, yes?

And so far, this looks like my choice until AOKP or CM10 are fully stable.

By the way, bootup initialization on this totally rocks - cleans all leftover Market cruft from cache just by booting up.

Installed late last night. finished it this morning had a few minor issues I'm accepting as operator error because I boo booed. I just reflashed a few minutes ago and google play has stopped unexpectedly tried a few things but no avail so now doing it again.

been using holo and sslauncher lately havent tried out the nova or apex whats the difference in them? holo reminds me of go launcher which i used to love until they started putting push adds in everything. and it was getting old.

I just asked about the OTA thing - it's not there yet, so we may have to re-flash to get that feature going - when it's ready.

I'm not a launcher expert, I tried Apex and Nova and just liked the Nova features better - some say it's basically stock ICS with more features.
