I've had my evo for 4 days now, and I think I have a pretty significant amount of dust in the upper left corner. Before I call to exchange this, can anyone take and reply if it is more/less than the dust under your phone?
There is also one random spec that made its way down to middle of phone (less concerned about this one...)
And yes, I know there is a thread complaining about "CRAPPY" build quality, but I think this phone is stellar in all other regards. I just need some verification that I have an unusual amount of dust for a 4 day old phone. Thanks!
Sorry to seem suspicious however it is your first post and it sure does look like the dust is on TOP of the screen seeing as it is showing on the black border as well and it would be impossible to see the dust if it was under the black paint around the border.

Understandable. It's nearly impossible to get 100% of the dust off the screen. I cleaned it with microfiber cloth prior to taking the picture. Nearly all of the dust in the "spray pattern" on the actual screen is underneath the glass.

Yeah, this will soon be a common problem with EVO owners. I am starting to get dust, I had it on my Hero too. Most of the people on this forum will deny the truth, but they will eventually have dust.
I was mocked, but I don't really care. The build quality of HTC is terrible, and dust coming into the phone is no surprise to me. I have it, too.

Wow this really sucks. I hope that dust problem isn't a common thing. iPhones and iPod touches have a rubber gasket that seals the glass and trim, I wonder why HTC didn't take this approach.
This used to happen with my iphone 3g. Try holding it in on hand and smacking it down into the other hand. The object is to jar the dust loose and have it fall down to below the visible screen.

What I'm trying to do is not carry it in my pocket so much. So I either set it down on the table or carry it in my hand. I also clean my pockets of pocket lint. I know its probably excessive, but following this method I haven't had a dust problem with my phones.
I have dust in the upper left, it looks pretty much exactly the same as yours. I also have the grounding issue and light leakage at the bottom. I'm waiting for RadioShack to get more in so they can replace it. Love the phone, but not going to accept issues like this on something a week old. My iPhone 3G had dust under the screen.. but again it was almost 2 years old so I understood and accepted it. You know?

If you have to do all that, then:
1. Exchange for a new one
2. Or get a seal tight case
3. Or just get a different phone.
This worries me. My last phone, a Moto q9c, had terrible dust problems. I took it into Sprint, and they said they couldnt replace it, but would gladly take it apart and clean it. I did this about once a month, til finally they said they wouldnt do it anymore. If this happens with my Evo I will be really annoyed.
Add another one to the Moto Q9c list, that was the only smartphone I ever owned that let dust get under the glass. I sure as hell hope this phone doesn't have the same problem.
If my phone looked like that and the dust was under the screen I'd return it for a new one.
I ordered through EVP and will ask to exchange this for a phone from a newer production run. Case + tape for headphone opening will be waiting at home.
I don't know why I read these threads because they just start making me worry that I will eventually experience this and it may be a rare occurence. The same goes for the screen lift. Ah!
I'm have the same issue in the exact same spot. I've had my EVO for 2 weeks. Sprint says it's cosmetic and refused to fix/replace the phone (even under the TEP).
All of you saying Sprint won't return it.....Listen up, you have 30 days to return or replace your phone! No matter what the circumstances are, you are entitled to do either one. So if you have dust, walk in and ask for a new one. Say there is dust under the screen, and even throw in a cherry on top and say your getting random resets a couple times a day, use your imagination people, If you have one of course..lol

That dust is shocking!
The Desire has a few dust issues. However, I haven't see a Desire with anywhere near that amount of dust under the screen! It seems limited to the odd tiny particle, which seems a very minor problem in comparison!

This is a late reply, but that statement isn't accurate. I had a 3GS for a year and a spec here and there of dust/lint did get under the screen. Same with my sister's iPhone. I took care of my phone pretty well (as I do with all my electronics). It can happen.
Don't even bother. That poster is obviously s troll. A two second Google search will pull up just how big of an issue dust has been for the iPhones too.
Exchanged 2 HTC Desire, all 3 had dust under the screen. The current one I have also has this squiggle line thing, could be a hair or something, but it's small.
If you think about it though, when you're using it, there will be dust, fingerprints, crap or whatever ON TOP of the screen anyways, so who cares really. There's always some debris either way.
Now, dead pixels are another thing.

I had this dust with my first phone, which I got on June 4, the first day they were available. It was annoying but then I accidentally left my phone on my car roof and drove off, destroying the phone.
Luckily I had insurance and they replaced the phone, with a new one, my hardware revision is 003. This is the revision where they were supposed to reseal the digitizer glass so there wasn't light leak on the bottom, and I think the seal is better, because I don't have any dust at all now.
Time will tell I guess.

I have 0003 and have dust on the same corner as the OP but it doesn't really bother me since it isn't as noticeable once the screen is on. You really can only tell if you look really close and if you are under direct sunlight.
I have a rev. 3 , actually my second rev. 3 and I have even more dust in that corner than the OP.
It's really frustrating and quite disappointing especially considering that this is supposed to be the flagship device. I owned #1 for a month and #2 for 1wk 3 days.
Yea, i've got some dust under mine, but not nearly that much. Sorry OP. The dust is only seen under my phone's screen in direct sunlight, where its not too usuable anyway. Dead pixels though. Those drive me insane lol

It has to be entering through the headphone jack. How else?
I exchanged my other EVO for the exact same problem. The dust was also appearing at the exact same spot, top left of the phone. The new one they sent me didn't have that problem and hopefully will never get that problem.
HTC is doing a horrible job with the design of the EVO.
Edit: Just after typing this i checked my phone and there it was. Dust on the top left of the screen. It isn't too bad yet cause i'd have to really look at it and in light to see the dust but this sucks.
Same problem in the same spot but a little worst than the OP. I just need to unroot so I can get Sprint to replace it. I can only see it in the sun so no rush. My evo is rock solid other than that.

4 month old post.. do u guys have a case on your phone? the evo battery cover isnt that tight so dust can go under it into the holes in back of the phone.
Yes, I agree. It is most definitely creeping in through the headphone jack.
I now keep my phone in the slim HTC leather pouch, headphone jack down, and it's still getting worse. >.<
I was thinking about tearing it down but saw a post on XDA about a guy who tried that and basically screwed himself. He stated you needed a new digitizer/lcd assembly because it's glued closed or something...once you pull it up it's not useable again.

i know this is an old issue, but i got 1 huge spec of dust in mine (and I'm way past the 30 days now).
I was afraid of giving my EVO a good "spanking" like you had suggested, but I watched as the little piece of dust went away out of visibility.
AWESOME
Thanks a million.

anyone gonna post a how to fix this issue with step by step like on the hero?
I didn't take apart my screen.
I held the phone in my left hand and sort of spanked it with my right hand.
Thanks to MutantCheese.
I watched as the piece of dust moved out of visibility and probably out the way it came in.
I'm so happy. I hope it works for anyone else.
Chock another User up the above OP post. I have this just now after going on 5 mos of owning my EVO. I had a Q9C also, which suffered like one poster above, even w/ my case. No matter, i just kept going back to Sprint, let them clean it, then be on my way. Eventually they stopped, and it was that time, where I just said F this, and got the EVO.
However, i'm noticing it's common more and more on many phones.

I have dust in the same exact location after owning my EVO for about 3 weeks. Also I have a "light leakage" problem on the bottom left of my screen too.
Is this cleanable? Or do you need to replace the entire screen all together?
