Various apps will show you the battery temperature, which I believe is the only easily accessible sensor you can get. Anything over 45C is dangerous for it.
But really, you shouldn't worry about it. The EVO, like most smartphones, has technology to keep check of itself. In fact, if it gets too hot, the EVO will blink orange+green together when charging, indicating that the battery is too hot to charge (and will actually not charge during this).
