I managed to get Swype reinstalled ok, but I've decided to give SlideIt a try and bypass the beta hassles. I don't think SlideIt is quite as sophisticated as Swype, but it has some nice features (voice input, shortcuts) and works about the same. I love my phone.
what i dont understand is why they say Swype is in Beta for android phones, yet there are phones that come with this preinstalled and it doesent expire wtf?
I signed up for the beta a long while ago (after the close of the previous one) but never got an email like you said you did
How long ago did you send them your email??
couple of months ago i believe. there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when they send the emails...i got mine a few days after others on the droid forums got theirs
Device(s): Rooted HTC EVO
Mik3.11 ROM/Stock (MikG) Kernal

I don't think I signed up that long ago. Awaiting an email (though I'm actually using Swype right now...shhhhh!! )

Hmmm..... I don't hear anything when I enter words.... even though my Audio setting is enabled. You can try disabling the Audio. From your Home screen, go to Settings and select Locale and text. From there, select Swype, then remove the checkmark from the Audio Feedback.
Hopefully, that will turn the sound off altogether.

Oops....sorry. I thought I was in the Samsung Vibrant section.....didn't realize I wasn't , so the above instructions will probably not be accurate.....but I think the theory should be the same , so try to find your settings area for Swype on your phone, and see if there's a way to disable the sound.
Hope this helps....
