My friend sent me a text message from a myTouch 4G in Russian and it shows up as "***** **" on my HTC Evo 4G.

Do I need to install something special for Russian to work in text messages or is it the Russian keyboard on his phone?

We're in the USA and phones were purchased in the USA if that makes a difference.

it could perhaps be that your phone doesnt have the font installed, so if there are particular letters that arent a standard then they dont display.

eg if you download a font pack for say word, and a character hasnt been made for every key on your keyboard. if you then press one of these keys all you get is a small box where the letter should be.
